Re: Quit Smoking How Long Has It Been For You?

keep it up Ron

I tried about 10 times --- finally was able to stay quit for about 6 months. Cold turkey too

Oddly enough, it was easy the first month for me --- it wasn't until like the 3rd month that it got rough.

Then, one day, I really wanted one, but kept telling myself not to. Then, not but 5 seconds later almost got hit head on by a concrete truck.

My next spoken words were at a gas station 2 miles up the road on the left: "yeah, uh, pack of Marlboro Lights please"

(oh and a frappucino)

So, you quit Dirt, or only for 6 months?

Yeah, I've been wondering about all of our members who have quit recently. Peladu had some secret that he wasn't going to share until he was sure it worked, and Patty had to quit for medical reasons....

I don't remember when I posted and I should have picked a specific date but I've had a few slips (ALL involved drinking). I'm now considered an irritant to my still smoking friends. ("How do you smoke ONE a day?!!!) Steppenwolf,"It ain't easy".

Stay so drunk that you can not find your butts to smoke, or just get one of those kid proof lighters.

I had to quit for medical reason, if only I could get my better-half to stop, I don't to this day crave a cig, I know what happen if I ever start again, my doc back then said cause of my health, asthma, and got pneumonia, I might not pull out of it, so it was quit, or take the wrong road.

As most of you know, I lost my Mom to smoking related cancer just last week...and damned if I still haven't quit...bet less then a pack a day now, and maybe by the end of the weekend, I will be there...my teeth hurt from all the gum I am chewing.

I smoke just one every once in a while, when I'm at work- 3 days per week (and stressed out!) or whenever I'm around someone having a smoke, like my sister. Honestly though, it's weird, I don't need one more often then that, I don't get addicted.

Over 5 years for me.
Cold turkey.
No gum/patches/blahblahblah.
Watched my grandfather die cause of it.
Made a decision, and did it.
It's will power.
I dont have cravings.
I never smoked because of stress.
Smoking was never linked with drinking.
I smoked 2 packs per day for years.
Saw it's effects, took them serious, did something about it.

Oh, it works ... give me a couple weeks though and I will let you know..

It also worked on a guy that smoked 3.5 packs a day for years ... four weeks so far, not one cigarette.

If there was anyone that I thought would never quit, it was him...

Another close friend, smoked 2.5 a day, yep .... he's done, and he's a cop, more stressful job than ours, he's going on his fourth week also.

Once they saw me do it, they knew it would work for them...

It's not the smartest way to quit, and I never thought I would do what I have been doing, but so far, it's 3 for 3....

..but like I said, give me a couple weeks, if I am not around here, then email me through my profile and ask ... in a couple weeks.

EDITED TO ADD: 3 for 3 and NONE of the three quit smoking due to illness! We were all just really tired of smoking...

Okay, Patty posted this approx 8 minutes ago, and I'm really surprised no one made one comment about her last statement! You guys are loosing your touch!! So, it'll have to be me.

Okay, Patty, am I going to have to fly all the way to Chicagoland to spank you?!!

You love those smokes- what kind do you smoke anyway, maybe I should try them!
