Re: ProWallGuy
If I could lock this thread, I would. While this is certainly off topic and qualifies for this forum category, it is the sort of thing that would be better hashed out in a PM exchange. Airing your dirty laundry in the public forum isn't an especially good thing to do.

Re: ProWallGuy
What is it with that carpenter's forum it has to have the most locked threads ever on CT. LOL Just imagine if we all sat down at the bar. We'd all be 86'd by the end of the night.

Re: ProWallGuy
Mike, and whoever feels they need to read this thread, I apologize for the way I shut that thread down. I'm sick as a dog, and feel like *****, and it come out in my post.
"1st off you aren't the only moderator here, so don't take the word moderator(s) to mean "ProWallGuy"." I know it wasn't personal, I just happened to be the first one that caught this debacle. "Now, hold on a second there... Is that really a serious statement???? Surely you know me and TOM better than that!" In hindsight, you are right. But at the time, I didn't feel like pointing fingers or laying blame with any specific person. "No moderators should be suprised when it becomes more and more of a percentage of a moderators duties when they don't nip flaming in the bud, that is exactly what happens." Very true. I slacked and am humbled by that fact. I will try to be more diligent as to when to step in and say 'whoa, play nice'. "That was me, and it's only my opinion, but it certainly seems to me, especially based on the recently locked post in question that there is a tendency of some moderators main contributions to be focused on inserting a message similar to "This smells like spam to me...", "Is this spam?", "Spam?" on any post which might even has a slight wiff of porkyness. I'm not denying that spam doesn't show up here, only saying that a moderators "job" here surely is not only to be on the look for just spam." Again, I apologize. It is true that spam removal is not the only function of a mod, but Ibet you'd be surprised at how much spam crawls in here that we squash before most anyone ever gets a look at it. I doubt I'm the mod you mention that posts something smells like spam. If I believe it is, I dump it pronto, and usually insert a cute picture to make it fun for myself. "But, once again 1st off you aren't the only moderator here, so don't take the word moderator(s) to mean "ProWallGuy"." Again, I didn't no offense taken at all. "You won't hear me crying over you locking that thread," I didn't think you would. But I have been whined about before when I shut threads down, mainly in the now-defunct political forum. Just didn't feel like hearing it all again. "maybe in hindsight it might have been a good idea for some moderator to have started moderating right about here ? " Yepper, it would have. But I must emphasize again, there are a LOT of new posts every day. I try to check them all, but some will slide past. If I see a topic that starts out OK, and starts running long, I assume that it is just good-natured debate. Apparently, maybe not. I'm personally ashamed that you Mike took it to the "I'll kick your ass" level. Not that it wasn't warranted, and not that I haven't felt like saying it myself, but it did shock me to see you get irked enough to go there. "Regardless, this is the first day of 2006, maybe this will mark the beginning of a new day here also, where moderators will start stepping in sooner with members who feel the need to flame others and tactfully nudge them back in the right direction?" Consider it done. And anybody can feel free to PM me if they see a thread heading down in flames. I try to watch it all, but I'm only a lowly paperhanger. And for justaframer, don't ever forget that I've been kicked out of better bars for better reasons than this one.

Re: ProWallGuy
Ok, unlocked.
I don't want anyone to think we are trying to squash any opposition to what we do here. You can air your dislike for our actions if you want but I encourage you to do it via PM in the future. Specific problems with specific people are usually handled best that way. Feel free to bash me all you like but the rest of these "moderators" spend their own free time working on this site. They do not get paid for this work. They do it to help this community grow and to help contractors with business and trade knowledge. Bottom line Mike, we probably need more moderators here so that we can ensure all the threads get read. Right now its just not possible. I'm usually busy coding improvements for the site and try to read whenever I can. But we are getting about 1000-1200 post per week now and its just hard to keep up. And that number is just going to grow and grow. I encourage everyone to report any bad post that you may see. You can do so by pushing the Button. Thanks

BTW Mike, I'm always open to suggestion. Please list anything you can think of.
Thanks.

Re: ProWallGuy
Well, Mike, - - not trying to continue a seemingly never-ending 'flame-war', - - so for starts I'm going to personally APOLOGIZE to you for seeming (and probably even 'being') so 'brutal' in posts like the one you've specified above, - - but at the same time I'm going to defend myself by demonstrating why you are the VERY LAST person I would think such a post would 'offend', - - as is demonstrated here (post #'s 12 & 41 should sum it up pretty well)
www.contractortalk.com/showthread.php?t=4923 As you see, it can be much harder being on the recieving end of these posts than the poster can even imagine, - - although some can handle it better than others. This is a post that I (openly) argued being said at the time, - - so I would respectfully submit to you to try and put yourself in another's shoes sometimes, - - and I'll try and do the same. Again, my apologies and willingness to show more 'consideration' in the future.

Re: ProWallGuyQuote:
The last thing I want to do is come across as ungrateful, it's actually quite the opposite of that. Also starting this thread was not meant as airing dirty laundry or calling out ProWallGuy or any other moderator for that matter. It was meant as #1 a simple and open conversation with ProWallGuy and #2 just a final attempt at calling out the problem of one members continuous flaming here. In the risk of sounding off again I do have to cry BS on thinking no moderators were aware of the closed thread in question. I suspect at least 1/2 or more of the moderators were reading that thread as it went on for what seems like more than 2 weeks. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think so. Personally, I'm all done with Tom and his continuous personal attacks, whether it is directed at me or anybody else for that matter. If the moderators choose to establish policy by inaction by allowing his flaming then it sure seems logical to me that the moderators should be hands off on my reactions to his flaming. |

Re: ProWallGuy
Well, I'm glad we are on the same page Mike. Hopefully this forum is a tool for users to grow both personally and professionally. These moderators give up a lot of their time to help the members of this site. I am very greatful for them.
I can't speak for the other moderators but I can tell you what I saw. I looked at that thread once and saw the detailed pictures and graphics you posted. I thought "thats going to be a great thread" and I went back to coding. Thats why we need people to report posts if there is a problem. That way there is no assumptions on who knows what. Once again: I encourage everyone to report any bad post that you may see. You can do so by pushing the Button. Thanks again!
