The pros running things in Illinois know how to deal with the snow.
Quote:
State 'Pleads With Public' Not To Drive In Snow
System Dumping Snow, Ice And Sleet Across Chicago Area
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Cars were spinning out and traffic conditions were already bumper-to-bumper as early as 4 a.m., as a violent snowstorm clobbers the Chicago area and leaves the roads engulfed in snow and ice.
The state is issuing a stern warning to motorists: Stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
"We are literally at the point where we are pleading with the public to stay home," said IDOT spokeswoman Marisa Kollias. "The streets are like sheets of ice. It is a mixed storm; it's almost as if there are little ice pellets that are hitting my face when I stepped outside my house, and I will tell you, it's dangerous." Full Story

We live in Chicago for christs sake! I see these news stories every year, as if snow is something new to our area. I was out and about this AM & it was'nt that bad. 79 was bad.

I think we're on a 30 year cycle. I remember a lot of ice and sleet back around '79. I don't remember a lot of snow in the '80's, so if things hold course we won't have that to deal with.

New Years Eve, 1978, Day/79, I drove all the way from Palos Heights to Highland Park, just to get to a party.
Smooth driving all the way, right behind an IDOT Snow Plow on I-294 the entire trip.
Just learn how to drive. Everyone got so uptight about our wee-itsy-bitsy snow just because Byrne made such a big deal about it to beat Bilandec back in those days.
Go to the UP in Michigan and see what there average snowfalls are, or Buffalo NY, and they deal with it alright.
Same thing goes for getting stuck when parked. Pull out a friggin shovel before you ice up your tire tracks from spinning the wheels. How that heck did people ever survive before 4-WD and ABS Brakes?

All ya' gotta' do is shut down the state or city. They do it here every ten years or so. I was ticketed for being on the road once after they informed us to stay home. The plows can't plow and emergengy vehicles can't get to the scene of an emergency if idiots like the common folk are blocking all the roadways stuck.

They do that here. They are called snow emergency levels
Level 1- becareful the roads are slick or snow covered.
Level 2- Only go out on the road if you absolutly need to, otherwise stay home.
Level 3- You are required to stay off the roads. If you are not a plow or emergency vehicle you will be ticketed. Trust me those are expensive tickets.

I heard today that Malibu even got a bit of snow.....anyone hear of such a thing?
Global warming certainly eventually leads to colder temps...but not this soon....

Is that the year Bilandic didn't deploy the plows fast enough and the city got buried?
I saw it snow in Hollywood (CA) once about thirty years ago. Big flakes, too, the real deal, but it didn't stick. Haven't seen it since.
Didn't hear about the Malibu snow if there was any.

Once global warming kicks in it will melt glaciers and change the salt content in the oceans. That will in turn change the ocean currents enough to stop our natural rotation of warm to cold water. Then the next ice age will happen.
It has happened tons of times over the course of the planets history. It's just a matter of time. If left to nature it shouldn't happen for awhile.
Watch "the day after tomorrow" same thing except a bit slower....

Don't worry, Obama's going to subsidize everyone who goes along with the program. He'll just levy a snow tax on all employers. Brilliance!

So, just about, right after I posted this earlier today, What The Heck Do You Think Happened?
Clue: Blonde
Yeah,
My wife was going to leave to visit her Mom in the hospital, but she didn't think the snow was too deep for her car to drive through.
As my parents used to tell me, when I told them I didn't think about whatever.....
She Didn't Think!!!
So, instead of calling me to use my freshly repaired snowblower, she tries to drive right through this chit.
Here is a photo of my boy, Little Eddie, helping me dig out the bottom of the driveway.
So, Do You Think She Had A Snowballs Chance In Hell To Get Through That Pile?
Ed

I lived in Chicago when that storm hit. In Lincoln Park. I walked for miles down Halsted and never saw a moving vehicle.

Idot does a good job keeping the expressways and interstates open. In Chicago they have to clear the main roads before they get to the side streets. They had what did they say 230 plows on the streets. A icestorm is a different ballgame then snow.
