34 cents a gallon if there wasn't a price war going on .

Free. I didn't have any money, so I just drove until I burned up what was in the Family car.

I believe it was about .23 a gal for regular, but that was about 40 years ago so I'm not real sure about it exactly.

Re: Price Of Gas When You Started To Drive

Waco Tx in 1964-66. Major price war, and it would jump around from 13 cents to 22 cents. Filling up was like gambling--ypu never knew if the price the next day would be higher or lower--never would be the same though.

I remember as a kid in Philly, my Dad getting $3.00 worth every Sunday, and it would be all he needed for the week. Now $3.00 of diesel won't even get my F-450 to the next station.

Free - - - filled up from the in ground tank on the farm.

College years in the early 70's I can remember gas wars at .17 - .19/gal. Fifty cents worth in the motorcycle tank would get me by for a week or so.

Re: Price Of Gas When You Started To Drive

.29 cents a gallon at a self serve gas station in Wisconsin when we were on vacation. That was already when I was a teenager, so I am sure it was cheaper when I didn't comprehend the prices.

When I was in high school, it was free. As long as you didn't swallow the gas from the siphon hose. I was like Robin Hood though. I only took for the Caddy's to feed my 1965 Buick Electra.

In college, the girl I drove to school with fot a 5 gallon can of gas from her dad every day from his construction job he was a supervisor at, so it was free for one year then too.

I used to do that too(Grandfathers farm) until something from the underground tank got into my cars fuel system and screwed it up. I think it was about $.80 when I started driving.

Re: Price Of Gas When You Started To Drive

Around .89-.99 when I had my permit... but mostly .99-1.09 or so when I started driving and paying for it myself.

Just the other day I put in $100 of diesel (had to put the card in twice as it stops at $50) and my wife told me not to finish up with a 3rd swipe. what a wuss... I guess she does not understand since $30 will last her at least a week.
