Population 63,000

Traffic accidents: 800
Traffic citations issued: 13,000

That was in 2008.

One thing the cops like to do here is park off to the side of the road, then peek out from around the bushes with their radar guns.

Then they wave the speeders over and have a ticket assembly line of sorts going. Some areas, they have four or five at a time pulled over.

I did get a ticket last week. First one in 14 years. 41 in a 35. But they just mentioned those stats on the radio today.

Only 14 fatalities and DUI's are up 35% so far this year.

It's got to be a great source of revenue. I seen the Sheriff doing the speed trap thing twice last week.

The Sheriff here never gets involved with traffic details. Must be the O'conomy.

Re: Population 63,000

I was in and out in ten minutes. They had a steady three-at-a-time pulled over. My fine was listed as $65.

They can probably average 20 tickets per hour. $65 * 20 * 6 hours= $7800/hr coming in for the County.

Not bad for a days earnings. And that's only one trap. Set up two a day, three days a week= $2.3 million annually.

That wouldn't make it to traffic court here, the cop would be scolded by the judge for wasting the courts time. Unless of course you are in a school zone.

I know my speedometer is out by 4 miles at that speed, and the faster I drive it progressively gets further and further out. As are most peoples speedo's, they just don't realize it.

Will you set it to court and chronicle the proceedings on CT?

There are some community events coming up here that I volunteered for. The courts don't know, so I'll just ask for Community Service and spend my money on more beer.

Here either. General rule of thumb is they wont stop you unless you are doing at least 10 over. And generally 80 or more on the highway.

Be thankful the cops are enforcing the laws in your area. Seems like the only time police hand out tickets around here is when there is an accident. In Toledo most drive 10 mph over the speed limit and at least three cars run through any given red light. Traffic control has gotten way out of control in my area.
