BTW... This thread is a perfect example of not serving the community overall.

I keep reading and re-reading the posts and I'm trying to see what this post has to do with a general discussion of the construction industry.

Somehow this post went from a simple question that really should be addressed to Nathan directly, because no one but he has the data to base an answer on, to a reiteration of the problems that 5 or 6 people are having with each other.

We have over 20K members on this site. Why should the issues of half a dozen folks dominate the list of topics every day in one form or another?

This is a double A's quote from a closed thread and I want to state right off that I don't necessarily dissagree with his point of view. However, it seems that these controversial threads are also the ones that get the most mileage so to speak. Yes, they rarely have anything at all to do with the main theme of the forum as a whole, on the other hand lots and lots of guys want to get their two cents in. It would be nice if we could voice our opinions without having to get disrespectfull of each other, but sometimes in the heat of battle things get said and feelings may get hurt though I agree with Malco that if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. I also doubt that as a whole these threads dominate the forum but if they do that says something about the general interest I suppose.

From our Posting Rules: "Users shall treat each other with respect at all times on ContractorTalk.com. Name calling, personal attacks, or other inappropriate behavior will not be allowed"

So it's pretty simple and always has been on this site. We don't allow people to disrespect each other and when the general tone of a thread goes that direction we close it. It's nice when we can take out just the offending posts but often it doesn't help so there is no alternative.

If anyone has a question about a specific thread and why it was closed feel free to Private Message me.

No, they aren't dominating the site as a whole but it seems to be more common in the plumbing section recently which I regret.

There are people in the wrong on both sides of this issue. A good rule of thumb would be if you don't have anything positive or helpful to ad to a thread then just skip it and move on.

We do seem to keep debating this same issue though over and over again. I wish I knew a solution.

I've been hanging in the P&R section to get away from all the arguing.

The names change but the arguments are the same , or fairly close. I find them mildly entertaining on occasion but i don't particapate. Or maybe I did at one time and don't remember. I had a different ID back then.

I doubt there is a solution. It seems to be a hot button argument and it will rear it's head every time someone either tries to skirt the law or a pro feels that the project being discussed needs to be done by a pro. Still, it would be better if the opinion could be thrown out there without the insults.
