Pickup Trucks & Bikers

Anyone else notice how times have changed?

In the 50's-80's P/U's and scoots were the bain of all things civilized. You had to have a second car to be presentable (I chose Porsche's). P/U's and bikes weren't allowed to be viewed in many places, including most of the neighborhoods that I lived in.

Today, soccer moms drive F-250's, worry about a scratch in the bed and Rolex bikers are welcome everywhere!

Re: Pickup Trucks & Bikers

In my area I think the soccer moms have nicer trucks than most of the contractors lol. Personally I think the auto manufacturers are ruining trucks, they are no longer for work.

Re: Pickup Trucks & Bikers

Manufacturers have ruined trucks, All the new trucks are just too expensive and nice to buy as a work truck. Ill just stay working out of the older trucks so i dont have to worry about scratches and dents. I put a couple new dents in the truck last year, The guy working for me that did it just looked at me waiting for me to yell or something. I just laughed and said it will be a good bar story for a while.

All the rappers, have ruined the trucks......pimp it to the max, I have seen trucks on sites that look like they belong on MTV. Can not buy work boots, plad work jackets and ball caps now with out first purchasing the CD and two gold chains with alarm clocks attached to them.
And WTF, the boss has to show up on the job site with a Harley and a pie plate on his head.....

Re: Pickup Trucks & Bikers

I laugh at the consultants who pop flats in their bmw's and call triple a to fix cus they cant work that crank jack they got jipped with from the factory

dodge minivans with 35 ladders on top (how doesn't roof collapse)
with some hubcap "spinners" sitting on 13" wheels

wives driving range rovers (I thought those were built for african safaris)

hummers
unless you got a 50cal attached to the top, what's the point

For a while I did have a fancy to get a HUGE RV and just travel the country. Work all over. Live on jobsite.
Slap down a tile kitchen floor, and then pull the grill out right on the homeowners lawn and do some salmon and crab cakes up.
Wake up in the morning, and you're already there.
Good morning

I was out in http://www.tesoroclub.com/home.aspx a few times this week. The hot thing here is pimped Hummers, lots of gold trim, big wheels and all of the options. Am I undercharging?

If you where there, I think you have your billing in order, just need to brush up on lease negotiation skills.

Most of those people have more money than they know what to do with, get as much as you can. Come to think of it, some of those houses are a few years old already, I need to do a mailing out there!

The media has done a good job ruining the work aspects of trucks also. I read an article in Car and Driver (i think) that gave the Chevy 2500 a negative mark for riding like a truck. I must be missing something.

Re: Pickup Trucks & Bikers

Is it even possible to buy a plain Jane truck for work anymore??? It's a custom order from the factory if you don't want all the BLING... I don't need the chrome trim package, the heated power mirrors, the sun roof, power windows, heated seats, power seats, etc... Just a truck for work...

Thank God I refuse to buy a brand new work vehicle - last year alone I was hit in a parking lot 4 times when I was in shopping... A beater like I drive - no big deal... If I had a $60,000 nice new truck, I would have been pretty upset!!!

A work truck 10 years old and running good is fine with me (a little rust or some dents - fine)... Couldn't see myself loading a fancy new truck with demo from a job and heading off to the landfill!!!

Cracked me up. A woman in a black Navigator had the dub spinning wheels. She was trying to look at her own wheels (rubbernecking) while waiting for the light.

Seems like trucks are more a prestige thing now than something to actually work out of. Uh, except maybe for some of the Porche owners. To each his own.

Re: Pickup Trucks & Bikers

the one I can never figure out is the people that buy a nice big truck then fill it with giant speaker boxes- nothing like a gas guzzeling suburban with less cargo space than a compact car

I recently bought a new (to me) truck, and I was excited when I saw the interior on the truck I ended up buying- plastic door panels, rubber floor mats, cheap seats, hand cranked windows, ect. nothing below the dashboard that can't be washed out with a hose, windows that can be cranked down without the truck running, and don't end up with a dead switch so that you can't roll it down period, nothing that I'm going to be afraid to climb into my truck with mud on my boots, grease on my shirt, or covered in sawdust, ect.

I have always considered a "fully loaded truck" to mean the offroad package, any optional heavy duty options, lockers, winch, heavy duty bumpers, tool boxes, and the simplest most rugged interior avalable

I've seen leather seats I liked, but that was because it was the same kind of leather that you see on motorcycle suits because of its abrasion resistance- as such, it fits rather well in the rugged interior department.

Re: Pickup Trucks & Bikers

boman, that was a '68 GMC 3/4 ton, 3 speed, 327, painted baby s**t brown by an amature painter who didn't tape anything off. Overspray was everywhere. It was also during the first oil crunch and that truck only got 10 MPG, empty or full.

The Porsches made a much better impression and got over twice the mileage if you didn't stick your foot into it. They were also chick magnets, I was young and single then.
