People Are Funny

Funny about humans and what the complain about in others. As of late, I've notice that many people heavily criticize others for the same flaws they have themselves.

Yes I do it too.

Last week on a job, one of the other tradesmen distracted me for about ten minutes telling me how one of the other tradesmen wastes HIS time with inane talk.

My mother has always been a bit disorganized, frazzled, and overwhelmed with paperwork and other issues (don't worry, I fight the same issues daily). During a phone conversation with one of my brothers he was getting a little critical of Mom's ways. It was all I could do to bite my tongue and NOT point out he is JUST the same.

Recently on another forum, one guy got real nasty to another for misquoting and twisting words to suit the argument - - - Yup, he is a master of these tactics.

One of the painters on the above mentioned job always "kids" how paperhangers are all prima donnas, and he's one of the biggest ones I've seen.

and the examples go on and on. I get on my son's case for stuff I am guilty of - but that's just being a good parent, right?

And I won't get into the politicians with their hypocritical condemnations of their rivals

Anyone else notice this "habit" in themselves or others ? Or is it only me?

Any examples?

Re: People Are Funny

I once read a psychological study regarding this. People tend to complain or gripe about things, they themselves are most guilty of doing...or not doing whichever the case may be. Supposidly it's an outlet for our own inner frustrations over our known recoginizable weakness's. In short...if you don't complain, your perfect.

3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

Re: People Are Funny

I think we all do it. When I do it to my kids I tell them I want them to learn from my mistakes. I not sure if that makes me less of a hypocrit but I feel better about it.

Re: People Are Funny

Thanks Guys,

You make me feel better so that I can now laugh easier when I see others and myself do this. The subject has been bugging me for about three weeks now.

builtenterprise, Yup, that's a passage that was taught us often, but I was brought up on the King James version where it talked of "beams" and "motes" and "casting out". Same message, different words; good words.

Also, I think that many people, if not all, have various insecurities and when we critisize others, especially in public, we think it lessens the appearance of those flaws in us. Heck, I know I did this about my brothers to my parents as a youth.

A number of years ago I did retail, and the owner once told me, "don't speak bad of our competition, it only makes us look bad" . Good lesson to remember.

Well, since we all are secure enough to admit we have done this we have a heads up on improving. New Years is right around the corner.

MERRY CHRISTMAS all. And whether you are Christian or not, the teachings in the New Testament on this subject are a good lesson for all.
