Olympic Handball

Looks to me to be a combination of basketball and soccer....or hockey....football?

Never ever seen this sport of have heard of it. Maybe I just don't pay attention.

Re: Olympic Handball

My first thought was "basketball for white men".

Re: Olympic Handball

I watched a little bit of it. The first thing that came to mind is it looks like something they made up down at the YMCA for out of shape guys with no athletic ability to do to feel better about themselves.

Water Polo without the water and conditioning.

Re: Olympic Handball

We played it in high school and I played it in the Army. We actually started a team up back in 1983 but there just weren't enough interested people to get it going. Basically soccer with hands allowed but once you get the ball, if I remember correctly, you can't move or if you do, you can only take a few steps.

Re: Olympic Handball

It is an international sport or it would not be in the Olympics.

It has been played for many years in many countries. Apparently, there is not enough interest in the U.S. to get it accepted. It is a tough sport that is not geared for the tall show-boaters that just endorse shoes and buy diamonds and necklaces paid for by teams and signing bonuses. - Keep in mind that the U.S. is just a part of the world and may have less influence in the future if the provincial people and the anti-foreign groups have a say.

The sport is great to watch and is not as hard to understand as other unpopular sports such as cricket and baseball (which is being dropped).

Re: Olympic Handball

I'd never heard of it before I turned the TV on the other day either. I wonderd why they'd replaced the basket ball nets with goals... or why they weren't being called out for handling the football
