Not Real Sure What To Do Here

Okay, so i land a new job last week. It is a small but nice kitchen remodel for a very nice family of 4. I get a crew there and get everyone started and my was soon to be lead man going. Things are rolling great. yesterday i had to run to the supply for some more stuff. i get back around lunch time. Everyone is gone, not unusual they usually leave to get something to eat. i walk in and to make a long story short, find MY was soon to be lead man and the Married woman both looking very uncomfortable and very "ruffled". neither will look me in the eye. I have not said anything to him yet, not real sure I really want to know. Anyone else had anything like this happen?

Just don't pony up for heath insurance before the husband breaks his legs! Then you've got injury down time, rehabilitation, possible lawsuit, whadda mess!

Damn, man, good luck with that!

Oh Man! I have NO CLUE what you should do! After all it was on his time. The least I can point out is that he sure does have good people skills to get that far by lunch time on day one. Good thing it was you that stopped in at lunch and not the Hubby! Do you know the H/O's?

Hey! Got an idea. Buy coffee for the crew at break time durring this project and be sure to slip in some salt petter into his before bringing it back for them. That should fix him for a while.

Start billing way out in advance too, just incase the hubby finds out

Say that to him. Explain what the risk to you is. Ask him (indirectly if necessary) if he values his job.

If it's on his time, it's none of your business. If it's on your jobsite, he's made it your business, whether it's on his time or not.

And a good time was had by all! I'd just keep moving forward. He didn't get into that situation all on his own, it takes two to tango. They're both adults (I assume) and there is not much that you could do about it.

It is NONE OF YOUR CONCERN. The ONLY guilty one is the Lady of the House. Keep an eye out for signs of Husband friction but nothing more.

I can guarantee you that SHE instigated it ALL. And not the first time for her I am sure.

This is exactly what my husband would say. MEN!

OK, now, suppose the hubby had come home and finds the guy with his wife. He's chasing the guy out of his house, you're coming in, he tells you to pack your things and get out of his house. AND he plans to tell his friend and everybody he knows exactly what happened, right after he kicks his wife to the curb.

I'd be furious that he hadn't said something to the employee.

This time it worked out ok. Next time? Let this guy dally on his own time someplace other than your jobsite.

I would write up an extra for services rendered...at say...time and a half....make that double time. She'll pay it.

You could call it "laying pipe" on the invoice.

Re: Not Real Sure What To Do Here

Herb, a contractor I know boogied with the housewife, so did the electrician and who knows who else. When it came time to be paid he sat down with the husband and presented the final bill. The husband said "I think you already got paid". Herb took it the way it was intended and just left. I think he got off light. We were young guys back then and considered "Herb's" situation pretty funny, I don't find it funny now. Too many possible bad endings.

Just carry on. Nothing profitable can come of looking into this right now. After the job is over and paid for, then you can ask him about it casually, if you're interested. I would be interested from the standpoint that I'd want a lead man of high moral character, but I'd have to choose the timing of such questioning carefully. That time is after the job is over and done with.

Sounds like a good time to present her with an additional work order

Re: Not Real Sure What To Do Here

Well for better or worse I pulled him off the job. I had a conversation with him and explained the position he put me in. He was fine and understood.

My problem was never with what happened. in this day and age I just did not want to end up with a " contractor raped me" or her thinking she was going to get a deal, or the husband mess.

And yes she is smokin. i cannot really blame him. However hubby is huge. He must spend more time at the gym than at home
