New Metallica!

The new Metallica song "The Day That Never Comes" was released today. I think it's very good and can't wait to hear it on K-ROCK tomorrow and all weekend. \m/

You can listen to it on their my space page: http://www.myspace.com/metallica or do what I did and download it from iTunes.

I still say when Jason left they should had used Les Claypool.
Idiots. Still good though, though with Claypool theyd kick ass!

Claypool is The Master of the Bass Guitar. But.................

He IS NOT Metallica material. He is too innovative.

Can you truly imagine Oysterhead meets Metallica?? Or Bernie Brains??

Re: New Metallica!

I think the song is really killer and last 2 mins of the song is as heavy as anything on Kill 'Em All, Lightining, or Puppets.

Re: New Metallica!

Im a huge Metallica fan and its good to see them getting a back to bit of what they started with as opposed to the last couple albums.

The drums on this sound SOOOOO much better than on the St. Anger album where they sounded like he was banging on garbage cans.

And you're right Malco. CLaypool is far to innovative for Metallica. Claypool is good funk and jazz type, not rock and roll.

Re: New Metallica!

I believe that Rick Rubin is losing his Magic!

There was a time when an album produced by Rick could not go wrong.

This single is mediocre, at best. Not bad. Just typical.

I got into Metallica in 1985. MOP! Things went well until Load-Reload. (not bad, by any stretch, just not Core-Metallica)

Re: New Metallica!

I've liked Metallica since I saw them open for Ozzy in '86.

I can't wait for the CD to come out so I can really hear what it sounds like.

Re: New Metallica!

I've been a Metallica fan since they came through StL in early 83 opening up for Raven. I agree with Malco (GULP!). The single is mediocre at best. Uninspired solos, weak riffs, nothing special, very forgetful. They try to take a ballad and make it thrash at the end? Just doesn't work for me. The Metallica I know and love has been gone since the Black album.

And BTW, I have a pre-release copy of the whole album, and all of it is fairly weak.

The first thing I thought of was The Unforgiven mixed with Fade to Black.

Re: New Metallica!

Never have been the biggest Metallica fan, they're middle of the road...this single is no exception.
The intro reminds me of Whiskey in the jar.

I don't dislike them, just never been blown away by the music.

Now if they had taken Claypool and let him influence some of the musical part of the songwriting, I'd probably have something different to say.

As for Claypool being funk or jazz...er...no.

I just played Fade to Black along with the song and half of it matched perfectly.

I dont care for it personally, these days im into harder stuff, Metallica just isn't as impressive as I once thought they were...way back,

I can pick out plenty of parts in the solo that are the same as several of their older songs.

IMO few compare to Ride the Lightning/Master of Puppets/And Justice for All era Metallica....Black album was pretty, good then it started to go down hill.
