Need Some Help
This is really not a question about construction.....................but you guys have been so helpful in the past i hope you might give me some ideas.
I will be deer hunting in the upper mid-west this december. Sometimes it can dip well below Zero. The question is........what type.....and brand of clothing do you wear. Something that will keep you (not warm (nothing will when its -10) alive. Lined bibs and thermals are a good start.................but what else. Thanks |

Re: Need Some Help
For me, it starts with the feet and the head. They're a bit bulky but the Sorels I have are incredibly warm and I spend hours outside in the middle of winter with them and my feet never feel cold.
Sorel Glacier is what I have (11 years now)- http://www.sorel.com/Product.aspx?top=1&cat=110&prod=51 For the head, I wear the standard pulldown winter cap. |

Re: Need Some Help
Dress in layers. 3-4 should be good. Start with a good pair of long johns weather rated for 0-30F temperature. Then a pair of jeans. Then if its really cold jogging pants over the jeans, followed by your hunting suit.
Layers is the key.

Re: Need Some Help
What I have been doing is using those disposable haeted back warmers. There for back pain but create over 8 hours of heat for those long sits on stand.

What is your gun of choice for deer. 30-30 or 30-06? I personally think 30-06 is the way to go. |

Re: Need Some Help
First layer should be polypro because it will wick moisture away from your body. Second layer synthetic pile. Third layer a water resistant wind shell of some kind, preferrably Gortex. No jeans or cotton of any kind because it traps moisture. Polypro comes in different thicknesses, so if its really cold you can go for the thick stuff. If you don't like synthetic materials then go with wool. For feet, plypro socks for the same reason and then a good wool sock. For hands, mittens are better than gloves, and I think there are mittens specially made for hunters with the index finger separate for the trigger. I've climbed ice in -20 weather dressed in layers as above and never been cold.

http://www.aramark-uniform.com/q0/st...og&style=1348# I have pushed snow in blizzard conditions, (5 degrees 40+ mph winds) in a skidsteer loader (no heat, open cab) 15 to 20 hours at a time and was as warm as sitting in my living room! And the coveralls were coated with ice! ![]() If you visit the site check the web specials @ lower left then scroll down the page.... these are $50 off. PS.They also have some incredible deals on other winter stuff in the web specials area, I may buy myself a few things!

Try Cabelas, they have great out door clothing. If you are into the great outdoors spend the jing on the new Hightec clothing ,its great stuff. I would go with layers as well and not wear any cotton. Wool is still good. I have a sherpa type hat from outdoor research I think it is. Fits tight over the head and is very wind resistant, you can throw a polar fleece hat on top of that One of my fleece hats works three ways . Can be a ski hat. Bacalava, or a neck gator. Sorels are good pack boots, but there all all kinds out there with some huge thinsulate values in them.1000 gram plus now a days. Definately get goretex even if they are the rubber hunting ll bean style. Gore tex outer shells too. Something with a storm skirt on the insdide is great to. Gore tex gloves with thinsulate and heat pack pockets. Leg gators. Spend it up , you will be much more comfortable out there. |
