My Own Home!

Looked for only 3 weeks. Made an offer and had inspection done. Now 3 weeks or so til closing.

Never owned a home before. I have not ever had questions about repairs and such because I was only here to help.
Now I will have a great reason to actually USE diychatroom.com.

I have alot of questions now, but I will reserve until the keys are in my hands. As long as the underwriters are happy with my bank account

WHEEEEHAW!

A slice of the American dream is nearly mine!

Congratulations! Wow, what a nice gift to yourself. Owning is so much nicer than renting, IMHO, (except for the repairs part, but even then you can do it right with decent materials).

Take a look at the way your mortgage is structured and see if you're able to pay ahead on the principle without penalty. This is a good way to build equity fast and to get out from under that mortgage quicker than you thought.

Re: My Own Home!

I hope you have friendly neighbors.
My first house came with extremely nosy neighbors,
and a dog that barked more than my wife.

Sometimes, as a homeowner, you have to realize that the money
you are dumping into your house will usually come back to your pocket.
Because, there are times you will think, "Man, I am dumping a lot of money
into this house."

Welcome to the world of Property Tax Bills....

Congrats...

Congrats on the new house!

Hopefully your taxes aren't as bad as the taxes in Austin where I am moving.

Re: My Own Home!

thanx all for your replies.

Renting a house or apt you are paying property tax

Owning is FAR better if you can do it. I always suggest getting as aducated as possible before you start. there is just so much that pops up.

repairs are something I somewhat look forward to but not too much...

I will post pics plenty as time rolls on.

Re: My Own Home!

Congrats on the new home and hope that you have a great time with it. Sometimes the work on the yard and house can get to be a pain, but in the long run knowing that it is yours (and the banks) helps a lot. Some people really like living in apartments because they don't have to do any upkeep to it, but I have never liked renting anything even a car.
