My Dog: Great Sportsmanship.

We have chickens that run wild here. Well one dumb mofo decided to fly into my yard. My dog (pit/lab mix) heard it and bolted out of the house. I followed, expecting some good entertainment.

The dog chased the rooster into a corner where an Areca palm is fairly tight to the fence. There is a section of hog wire (6' in x 6in squares) fence separating the yard from the nursery, and the rooster got caught up trying to get through it. My dog resisted the urge to pounce on a free meal and sar patiently as the rooster calmed down, backed out of the fence and took off across the yard. The rooster booked across the yard and managed to get air born and over the back fence about .2 seconds before my dog had it. She did manage to grab some tail feathers though.

I was very impressed that she didn't go for the easy kill. Especially considering how much she loves chicken.

I dont really think it was her sportmanship, i think her prey instinct was switched off for a moment while the chicken became immobile. Moral of the story, if you are be persued by a wild animal-------DO NOT RUN G

Ah yes...the thrill of the chase. That's a good dog you've got there. Gave that chicken a sporting chance.
