To My Canadian Friends

Our corporate offices are having a sweepstakes to pay your mortgage for a year.
On the fine print it states to the Canadian residents that they are subject to passing a math question at random or be disqualified.
Does anyone know what the heck this is about?
I have never heard of such a thing!

Now I know there are going to be some pretty funny posts on this subject and that is fine...but I really hope to find an answer on why this is.....

I'm interested too.
I once heard that there was
something about a test of skill
as opposed to a game of chance?
Wasn't made very clear to me.

Math quiz??

Sounds racist to me.

Leans towards white men with blue eyes.

How about a free throw, for the sake of 'fairness'??

No wonder I never won a contest in Canada. The math skill question was very in depth to say the least.

Re: To My Canadian Friends

I don't often get involved with those type of lotteries, but when I do they usually have that question on the bottom of the ticket- and its a simple one too! otherwise most of us would lose my wife just asks the vendor what the answer is and they tell us. Its a head scratcher for sure, it sure seems like a silly rule. I guess the upshot is - no taxes on lottery winnings - so if you win 10k, you get 10k.

most that I've won? 15 bucks! LOL enough for two and 1/2 starbucks!

Mac!!

Re: To My Canadian Friends

When I was a kid, I remember filling out contest entry forms taken from the back of cereal boxes. They all had simle math questions such as 2 x 5 - 4 + 3.

Another Canadian fact.. we do not get taxed on winnings. If we win a boatload of cash, we keep every penny of it.
