Monster House

Alright - admit it. You love the show. What's your favorite episode? I think mine was the Old West Saloon house where the "electrician" took 3 days to install a switch and some paper contractor was asking a seasoned carpenter if he was "certified" to use a ramset to secure some 2x4 to a concrete floor...

When I joined on to this new company, it was me and another guy with the most construction experience. One of the HR people asked me for tips on what types of issues she might run into with tradesmen on the job. I told her to watch monster house and she'll see a condensed version of it.

Tim, You're right, I like the show but I damned sure wouldn't want any of them working on my projects.
I liked the one with the fire breathing fireplace made out of foam. How did that ever pass inspection?

Re: Monster House

Teetor,
I thought about that too. I have a sneaking suspicion these locations are really pretty rural where they can get away with alot of things. While I was in college I helped our drama department build stage sets and there seems to be as much set building going on as true residential construction....

Around here, many of the safety programs run by large commercial GC's actually do require a "powder actuated tool certifcation" for carpenters that will be using them.

I wish we got that program up here - sounds like a good one. One of my favorites on HGTV up here is Real Renos with Jim Caruk. He could be my girlfriend's father's twin brother - in looks and personality. He curses like a trucker but he specializes in fixing bad GC's ***** ups and shows people that way a real GC should do things!

Re: Monster House

The giant dog house with "Doctor Wood" was freak'n hilarious. A great example of who you don't want on your job site. - the guy who knows it all and makes sure you know he does too, but for some reason keeps forgetting it all when it comes time to for the hammer to meet the nail.

Best quote from the doctor - "Listen to me and you might learn something, might get a roll as big as mine dude, what do you know you're from Tennessee."

Second best quote -"I completely trust you, as long as you do exactly what I say when I say it, exactly how I would have done it myself, and I'm watching you carefully the whole time you're doing it."

I don't really watch Monster House I've been living thru it for 20 some odd years.

From paycheck advances, right on thru family counseling, up to bond money to get out of jail. This biz attracts only the finest of character.

Crap fella's......I never really thought about it but.........I pretty much fit right in.

Mike,
I saw that one too. Man that guy was classic.... I was hoping someone there would start making erectile dysfunction jokes about his "Dr. Wood" title....
