Mental Preparation

do you folks do something at the start of your day to sort of set your self up mentally for the next 8 - 12 hours?
One of the guys at work does some sort of yoga - another one doe's a joint - I just relax with the radio off in my truck and breath slowly - couple of guys chain smoke - lead labourer does tai chi - (he's 60 and outworks the 20 somethings!)

what do you all do?

have a good one!

Mac@!

Drink strong coffee, smoke a cig, take a big dump, and get to it.

Eat a Banana!

I tired working out in the mornings, but that didn't work out too good for me. I know some people love it, but I like to workout in the evenings!

Re: Mental Preparation

I use to be geared up 24/7,always running to the next project or thinking about how I'd approach the day, who's going to do what,is this the most efficient approach, should I concentrate on something else first.................
but then I got married, and have learned to stop, listen and enjoy.
The work will get done when I get there.

I do still need the coffee and cig though,a little morning news, and sometimes the crossword puzzle to get the gray matter in motion.

Maybe it's just because I'm an old fart!

Can't forgit the two dumps, like clockwork, one after the first sip of coffee, and one just before I head out the door.
Gotta lighten the load before I hit the ladders.

Re: Mental Preparation

I am at the gym at 5:00 a.m......in that time I prethink my day accordingly. When I get into my truck after working out I have a notepad where I jot down my daily punch list/list of events/phone calls to make and so fourth.

That's funny as hell, PoolMan! The mental image is perfect!

To the OP, I fill in an Excel "To-Do" List the night before - map out my day to the hour.. list of things to pick up and where, list of things needed for that day's work, list of people to contact that day and why, detailing the day's work and my usually overly-optimistic time frame, any appointments for the day, etc...
I print it out in the morning after adding in anything I forgot the night before - look it over while munching breakfast, start the truck, crank the stereo, and get to it.

Good strong coffee, smoke a cig, put Jimmy Hendrix "Crosstown Traffic or "Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo on and put the petal to the metal.
Listen to "Sympathy for the Devil" on the way home.

Ahh, you can't go wrong with the classics. But when I really want to get amped up, I chuck in a little of this:

Fires me up every time!

Yeah, I haven't got out all of my teen angst yet.

Re: Mental Preparation

Strong coffee, nice chewy nicorette and classical music

Half of my guys can't get out of park until they hit the scoobie snacks....I don't know how they do it.

I'm not against it...to each their own. You can visibly notice production slow down between joints...it's like spinach to popeye for these guys...ppppPPOWER UP!

One toke for me and I'm useless the rest of the day. Talk about a 180.

I hear ya. I haven't hit the ganja for many years, for that very reason. Motivation: Out the window.

I had a guy working for me once and that's all he did. Hey, if you want to party in your off time, who am I to judge? But when you start getting ballsy and hide around the corner and toke in the customer's yard when I'm there busting my ass in the 100 degree heat, then we have a problem. I canned him with extreme prejudice.
