Re: Lost My Shades Today

I feel your pain. A couple of months ago, I lost my prescription, ultra dark, Flexon framed shades...$450.00 I literally spent 2 days tracing every single step I made. It wasn't the money that bothered me as much as it was the fact of losing them. I just know that somewhere around here, there is a non-english speaking type guy wearing them and pretending to be me.

Dude I am sorry to hear that. I was on a job last year that entailed painting a house. Long story short my brother in law is a pro wake boarder and he gets glasses all the time. Well he had this company and then he switched. Well I had a pair of the glasses from that company.

I took them off due to overspray while under the soffit.

Well you know thos guys like us that pay some lets say under employed rejects to pass out flyers? The dude came walking through the yard with a flyer. Well I knew he had hung one on the door but while his pass through he stole my glasses also. It didnt occur to me until after he was gone and I realized it 20 mins later.

I was pissed. Can you imagine if Id got ahold of that guy. Some of you have seen pictures of me and need I say more.

With all due respect to what you wear, and no offense intended, but anybody that spends more than $20 on a pair of sunglasses has more money than common sense.

A couple years ago, I was fishing a tournament on Lake Fork in TX, and my Falcon rep gave me a pair of SolarBat Sensor polarized shades for sight fishing. They performed/looked/felt no better than the el-cheapos I bought at BPS. I think the sensor retail for a round $75.

On the same note, I fish with $200-$300 rod/reel combos, and could probably catch the same fish with a $30 Zebco special.

Re: Lost My Shades Today

I gotta go along with ya on that one!

The guy that figured out that people would lay down $200..$300...$400! for a pair of sunglasses was a freaken genius. I don't get the whole $200 sunglasses thing when 99% of that $200 is paying for a look and $2.00 of it is paying for the sun filtering and UV protection. And I'm a guy who owns an expensive watch and even I wouldn't spend more than $25 on a pair of sunglasses that I know since I have 40 years of experience losing them, breaking them or wearing them out in an average of 6 months or less no matter how much they cost.

Are you guys shelling out $200...$300 for sunglasses the same guys who buy their coffee at 7-11 and think paying $5.00 for a cup of coffee at Starbucks is stupid? Come on now, be honest...

Oh and by the way, sporting or huntin' stuff doesn't count!

I am guilty of having 8 different ski goggles in my bag.

Re: Lost My Shades Today

For sunglasses I buy them at Big 5 last years models at gas station prices. Yeah I am cheap but I never seem to keep the same pair around except the ones I was wearing when I took down a texas holdem tournament but my son did a little damage to those.

Re: Lost My Shades Today

Yeah, but these were prescription bi-focals with progressive polycarbonate lenses. The Flexon stuff was the pricey part, you can twist them in a knot and they spring back.
My present pair are from that dreaded place...Wal....$6.00

Re: Lost My Shades Today

Having grown up on the water, Bahamas, Ft. Laud and now Jensen, I know how much good glasses mean. Dad insisted on them and I wore Baush&Lombe (RayBans) for many years.

Optically correct is most important. Hold them at arms length and see if there is ANY distortion in the lenses Most glasses today are protective against UV A and B. Polarization adds another layer. You can check for this by turning 2 sets 90* to each other and checking for darkness. The lenses on good glasses will turn totally black, cheap ones will be dark in the center and fade towards the perimeters. Also important is that they meet the ANSI or Z code (double as safety or scoot eye protection).

I fail to go all out and don't buy big designer names but all of my glasses fall into these catagories. My favorites are Ocean Waves and Costa del Mars at about $140-160. Take care of them and they'll take care of you.

For you older guys, you can buy stick on cheaters at the drug store and get cheapie bifocals. $12.00 for the last ones that I bought.
