It Was A LONG Drive Home Today.

Ok, I live on one side of Dulles airport and work on the other side. So, I can go home either way. I always take the back way but today (because of the rain) I went the other way.
Anyways, all hell broke loose. The road got shut down and I kept trying to take back roads around the mess and it kept getting worse and worse.

It was once I passed a fleet of police cars, FBI agents, automatic weapons, Shotguns, and police helecopters that I realized I needed to turn off my IPOD and listen to the radio.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/08/vir...ing/index.html

Of course my back road short cut was to drive past the police station. 2 hours it took to get through everything.

Crazy stuff.

I know what traffic can be like exactly where youre at. I worked at the Hilton Hotel right next to the Dulles Airport and we stayed in Vienna, VA. I think. At the WolfTrap hotel. DC traffic is terrible.

The traffic I can handle. It's the shootings and road closings that are kind of strange.

I was here a few years back when the DC sniper was running around... talk the city was tense. I remember going to a Home Depot and the next night a lady got shot right were I and parked the night before. Crazy.

FALLS CHURCH, Virginia (CNN) -- ...the suspect drove up to the police station and opened fire. Police officers returned fire...it wasn't clear whether police killed the suspect or he killed himself.

I can see the headline now "Virginia man shoots himself 42 times before dying in gun battle with Fairfax officers."

I can only imagine what you sat through Nathan. All I had to do was stop in on frying pan rd., but I aborted that mission once I saw the traffic back to I66.
Today will be better, as long as you're not near fairfax Hsptl.

Yea, I wasn't so smart. I took frying pan road and got onto 28. Then dumped out by the air and space and drove over some construction site to get to centerville road and then went to willard road to try and get up 50. Once I saw that was backed up I headed to westfields and that is where I saw everything was out of control. I thought it was just an accident on 28 that shut it down.

Anyways, that was purely for snapper since he knows the area but I basically took the worse possible route I could. I drove right up to the problem area and then had to work my way away from it past the NRO building. Bad day!

We should do a lunch or breakfast some day since you are so close. I work in Reston.

Re: It Was A LONG Drive Home Today.

It's interesting... maybe dejavu. Funny almost. I was driving and saw some cops with their weapons pulled so I slowed down to see what was up. Then I saw one cop approaching a parked vehicle... Then I noticed on the other side of the vehicle directly across from me another few cops taking aim on the car. Had they had to fire, and missed the car I would most certainly catch a bullet... so I proceeded to fly out of there.

What was even funnier is there was a construction site right next door and some guys were laying the wood for the foundation, and they were directly in the line of fire. I'd have been craping my pants if I were them.

This incident is totally unrelated to nathan's however these types of things don't happen every day and it's just odd that they happened two days apart. No shots were ever fired and I just took off because I had better things to do. It's just not every day you see 8 plain clothes cops with guns drawn taking defensive postures behind their police cars all aiming guns at the same car.

On another note, I wonder how they decided who gets to approach the suspect vehicle? There's 8 cops but only one is walking to the vehicle... "Hey rookie go see what's going on in that SUV!" or perhaps "Bob you were late today, so you get to risk your life while we hide behind our squads". In any case that was the most excitement I had today, and it lasted a whole 45 seconds.
