Lighting Upgrades For The Older Schools.
I got to talking about run down schools on the other thread and I thought I might mention that if you know of any schools that are still using t-12, (1-1/2 in. diameter), fluorescents with pcb ballast, these schools can be upgraded to t-8 lighting at no costs to the school district. At no cost to the school district. These projects can be paid for by Utility CO. rebates and incentives, and by kilowatt savings... At least that is how it is done in my state and a couple of other states I know of.
The reasons to do the t-8 changeout. 1) better light 2) saves kilowatts 3)Takes out the hazardous pcb ballast and sends them to the hw dump where they belong. Probably a couple of other good reasons to do a changeout that I can't think of right now. Also the any Mercury Vapor hid's in gymnasiums are usually upgraded to a halide or better. You might have to put up with the run down old school and what some people consider inadequate teachers but you don't have to put up with old crappy lighting.
