Re: LEGO Fun
I must have had one of the first sets when I was a kid...the blocks were all white and red, and there were a few windows that opened. I built little houses and buildings, all with flat roofs. Who would have ever known?

Re: LEGO Fun
Whenever I see a garage sale just getting set up with kid stuff in it, I stop and always purchase the lego's if they are there. My son has a job box full of the things. No instructions on how to build anything but that just makes it that much more fun...

Re: LEGO Fun
I have been looking at some of the kits for my granddaughter for Christmas. I think I will end up skipping the kits and just get her a couple of buckets. Seems like the kits can only be put together a couple of different ways. With just the legos, we'll let her imagination limit he scope of the project.
My son is 22. One time when he was in Iraq he called home and I asked him what he was doing in his spare time.....He was playing star wars legos

Re: LEGO Fun
As a boy, LEGOs for me consisted of mostly rectangular pieces in primary colors. The boxes came with instructions that showed you how to built all manner of projects with a given set.
Today, my sons get "kits" that build specific models--with pieces custom made for that ONE project. Once that kit gets built and torn apart, those pieces go into the pile--and they move on to another kit. Yes, they still build free-form things with the loose pieces--but the folks at LEGO are great marketers, and it's all about the latest and greatest. I would conservatively estimate my sons have about $1,500 worth of kits in storage bins, couch cushions, and various nooks and crannies throughout the house.

Re: LEGO Fun
That vid was pretty good. I haven't got my son any of the new sets which are really just 3D puzzles. He prefers the free form stuff.
Lego tip: Put a sheet or blanket down, then dump the legos. The entire blanket can be pulled out of the way if necessary and you can use the blanket to pour the legos back into the box, bin, whatever, in seconds. Tends to contain the shrapnel too.

Re: LEGO Fun
I had Construcs as a kid. Those were cool. Legos were cool too but expensive.. I grew up without a silver spoon. I always loved to mess with them, that is seriously half the fun with having kids, you get to play with em ALL over again
And you haven't seen Lego fun till Modern fills you in on it
