Kids --Daycare/Nanny/Stay At Home
My youngest daughter has been sick a couple days every week for the past 3 weeks. Nothing big, just a fever (teeth coming in) and the past couple of days some vomiting at both ends. Every morning I wake up not knowing if daycare will take her or if I will stay at home.
My question is: Do you folks with young kids have them in daycare? We pay daycare a small mint and they can reject the kids for a list of reasons. A nanny that does some light cleaning and cooking is looking like the way to go. Yesterday I just took out a bay window when I got the call from daycare, sort of bad timing! Generally my schedule allows plenty of time for the kids but sometimes it is hard to juggle.

Re: Kids --Daycare/Nanny/Stay At Home
My wife works as a school bus driver and does not get back to home until 10:30-11:00 a.m., hence why I have most of my posts in the morning.
I am a stay at home dad for the morning hours and then she watches our 4 year old until it is 1:30, at which time he goes to the baby-sitters for 3 hours until my wifes afternoon shift is done at 4:30. I could choose to leave earlier and have Little Eddie with the sitter all day long, but I am 49 going on 50 this summer and he is my first child and he just turned 4 years old. He is only going to be this young once, and work will always be there. BTW, for 3 hours a day x 5 days is $ 75.00. The woman is one of my wifes friends moms and she babysits for her daughters 2 children anyways. Ed |

Re: Kids --Daycare/Nanny/Stay At Home
When my kids were little, I stayed at home with just them until they were two, then I opened a family home day care and took other kids in as well. My numbers were always low, and I believe the value was high for the families that had their kids with me.
If you can find a stay-at-home mom who wants a little extra household money, that's often your best bet. Family home day care is often more lenient on the sickness issue, too. I would watch sick kids as long as the fever was under 100 degrees and there was no vomiting. Let's face it, sick kids have all been exposed to each other, but a really sick kid needs their mommy or daddy. If you can afford a nanny, great. But when you find out how much a (legal) nanny costs, you may think twice. |
