Just Boguth A New Short Block For Race Car:)
Been dragging my feet on getting it going again since we've been so busy, and actually dont know how I would've had time to race this year anyhows. I took my heads in 2 weeks ago to get checked after carnage from end of '05 season-everything was great except I bent every valve
so repair is gonna be cheap considering what the costs could have been in light of other damages to engine. Priced titanium vales...until I found out $90/ea for intakes and $80/ea for exhaust fock that so just putting severe race duty SS valves back in there and upgrading to titanium retainers.Buddies that I raced with were assembling a BBC last night and called me out to have a few barely pops, ended up scoring an incredable deal for a short block. Guy bought it from Huntsville engines for $8K-short block only since he did a bunch of upgrades on the internals...beginning of this year lost something or other and it took out 2 rod ends-burnt and scored badly and gouged into his crank. He took block it and had that gone through so all is ready on the blcok end of it. Sent crank in and got it rewelded/turned back to standard and re heat treated. Anyways for the car nuts here it goes and if you know parts you'll be jealious LOL!! Dart Lil M block with billet splayed main caps $2800 new-virgin block with 50 passes so can still bore upto .100 on it. current set-up is 427cid (small block) Callais forged crank-$2K new Manley 6" H beam rods $600 new JE lightweight forged pistons $649new Stephs oil pan $490new Bullet mech roller cam $270new-I am getting a different grind but this cam comes with it Power coated cast aluminum valve covers $90 for covers/$80 to get them powder coated ATI balancer $279 new SFI approved flywheel $135 new billet timing chain cover $140 new All of these pieces have only 50 runs, all i need is 2 new rods rings/bearings and shortblock is ready for assembly....all for only $2500 I could not believe it and almost lost my poker face, he said the price, I hem hayed and told him consider it sold. Dropped off down payment to hold it and he's calling Monday to get crank overnight aired so I can pick it all up. He was running 9.60's in his car which is 1000lbs lgither than mine so hoping I can run consistant 10.80's and get into high 9 territory with the lauhghing gas...through the mufflers of course-gotta keep it street legal

Jeez, you might have picked up gambling as a hobby, it might end up to be cheaper!

LMAO, it's not a cheap sport by any means, and esspecially with a try to have the best of the best (of what I can afford/budget) attitude.
This deal was too sweet to let pass by, second time in my life I was in the right place at the right time usually I hear about deals like this and am envious of the guy that got the deal.

Josh
Went for a ride in a 69 SS this last weekend here in Texas. It roasted them all 4 gears bro. 383 Stroker we are big into race cars dude. My parents just went and bought a "WEDGE" in Illinois a few weeks back for a project car. 10k was the price

Re: Just Boguth A New Short Block For Race Car:)
That's what I get the biggest kick out of when guys/teenagers come around, they all rode in "fast cars" that had "500-600hp". Funniest thing is is there is nothing about the old muscle cars that was truely fast unless the owner sunk alot of money and time into it extracting the last hp out of it. I've taken a few buddies and older guys for a ride that fit this bill of having ridden in "fast cars" before and let's just say they have now ridden in a true "fast car"...for the street anyways without going mongo with limitless budget constraints...actually gave one buddy a ride oin the local town parade, got on the bridge and all the peeps were doing the burnout signal....I did a quick one, then further across the bridge the next batch wanted to see it again....lets just say I darn near ate a guardrail. The cars suspension is set up for racing and just me, with a passenger it preloads the chasis worng and the car drives hard right-when the front tires are either off the ground or barely grazing it...we both bout sheeot ourselves when the car stopped inches away and the crowd was going nutz LOL!!
My heads are about done, and I think since they're now new again I'm going to sell them and step up so the motor can do what it's meant to and just be nasty, my current heads flowing what they do will only allow 580hp which is quite a bit shy of what this new mill could produce with the right top end...I'm not going to go nutz since the heads I really want are $3585 for the bare castings and would end up being around $6000 for a complete top end and all valvetrain...so I'm just going to pick a happy medium and shoot for a realtively respectable 650hp which should quite easy to achieve within a fair budget and still be reliable....just not sure if even after swapping out suspension stuff if my small tires will hook it consistantly in the summer with the greasy track, so next winter I might be forced into tubbing it unless I come across a killer deal on a pro street set-up that just needs a drivetrain...there is a point when too much power is a bad thing LOL!! I rode in a buddies car that is .5 slower than mine was on the street, and he actually tried running normal radial tires for the weekend cruising-now that is scarey...no matter what speed your going in high gear you blaze'em when mashing the loud pedal, so that was enough for me to 86 the idea of ever trying to run normal tires...I'll stick with my DOT slicks thank you...just gotta watch for rain since that is scarey to get caught in
