John Prine

Another thread made me think about this guy today and pull out an old tape (cassette that is). Any you guys ever listen to him? One of my favorite choruses:

"Grandpa was a carpenter, he built houses stores and banks. Chain smoked camel cigarettes and hammered nails in planks. He was level on the level, and shaved even every door - voted for Eisenhower ’cause lincoln won the war".

From the 1973 album entitled Sweet Revenge

No shi*t!! That's awesome. I had no idea he still toured.
Back in the day I went to his shows about a half dozen times...at least three of which he didn't even show. The concert promoters got tired of that crap fast. He was quite the wreck for a number of years. Is he sober now?

Re: John Prine

I believe he is sober, (otherwise he'd probably be dead) and I think maybe some throat surgery. Voice sounds the same. He does part of the show solo, acoustic and part with his band. @#ucker can rock! He packed a good sized auditorium and probably gained a bunch of new fans. In my world, (the bluegrass world), he has had some great hits that still get played a hundred times at every festival across the country.

My kids love to sing along to "That's the way that the world goes 'round". Especially..."I was sitting in the bathtub counting my toes, when the radiator broke, water all froze. I got stuck in the ice without my clothes..."
