I Should Have Handed Him A Shovel And A

roll of toilet paper.

The two houses next door to me are owned by the same person. He lives on the mainland, they are rentals. There is a huge banyan tree that is shading my yard and garden
and growing over my fence.

I called him, as a courtesy, because I wanted trim the limbs over my garden.

I never heard back from him. I came home today, and there is a crew doing a full trim job on the tree. . Oh well. Easy come, easy go.

Anyway...one of the crew just came and knocked on my door and wanted to use the bathroom?

WTF?!

It would have been one thing if I had hired them, or the tree was in my yard.....

Isn't that what you wanted? The tree trimmed? Why are you mad? Because they were in your garden?

Where I live trees that are growing over your property, you can trim them. Not sure if you need to notify or not, but you certainly don't need permission.

I don't get it? Nice neighbor, in terms of responding to your request....He took care of it, so you wouldn't have to.

Re: I Should Have Handed Him A Shovel And A

I wish th eowner of the house next to one of mine would be as easy to work with. He has a row of pines that constantly shed, lose limbs, etc. over my house. I periodically climb my roof on that house and clean valley. Damned things are about 60-70 feet tall, I guess. Flipper bought it, and I know there is no way he is going to do away with the trees, especially on his dime. Not what the procedure is if a limb big enough to do real damge falls.
SEveral years back, we had an ice storm here, and it sounded like a fire fight with the trees breaking.

Re: I Should Have Handed Him A Shovel And A

Maybe, he just plain didn't want "you" to cut anything on the tree. Maybe he felt more comfortable with a different person, or company...hired by him, to trim the tree?

Example: I had the guy next store to my old home ask me the exact same thing that you asked the other guy. I told him, sure, go ahead and trim the branches hanging over the fence (my fence). He went ahead and proceeded to give the tree the equivalant of a crew-cut. Stopped back at the house later, and my jaw dropped....

I'd be hesitant to ask a HO to let use their crapper. In past I've heard HO's say things like "I don't want any of those pigs using my bathroom".

I was going to cut the stuff growing on my side as I have the right. I called him as courtesy to let him know I was going to do some trimming.

That could well be the case. I've never met the guy. I got his number from one of his tenants. When I called I got his voicemail. I left him a message with my intentions, what I did for a living and offered him a discounted neighborly rate.

Could be he has a standing relationship with the guys that were there. Can't blame him for that. Especially when you are an out of state property owner. Good relationships with contractors are priceless.

I'm not mad at them for trimming tree. I'm not even mad at the guy for not giving me the job.

I was a bit mad in the generic sense of just not getting the job. A job right in my backyard.

And I let the guy use the bathroom. I know I'd have to be in a pretty damn desperate situation to ask a HO or more specifically, the neighbor of the job I was one, so maybe he was there already. He did remove his shoes and dust himself off real good.
