How To Quit Buying So Many Tools...

Get a boat! Can't say I'm saving a cent, but I haven't bought a tool in 6 months.

Re: How To Quit Buying So Many Tools...

You still have to buy "tools" just diferent types......flare guns (because they look cool), handheld radio's (because they are cool), gps unit (becuase it will save your life), beer (because it tastes good), different fishing rods (real men fly fish), the list goes on............

West Marine is my new Home Creapo.

Can't worry me with that "safety" junk right now. There's fish to catch.
uh hum, fly fishing is for puss arms. JK, I have no fly areas around here. Major bass spots though.
BTW, call em what you will, but I'm not a tool whore anymore. Just a recovering tool whore becoming a tackle whore.

Bass will hit on flys. I live on a lake with large mouth and have not used a spinner reel in years. I cheat and use spinner reels for some salt water. The thrill of catching a stripper or blue fish with a fly rod...

Do you have one of those casting fish finder things? The price is really tempting, might ask for one for x-mas.

A boat can slow you down. I'm down to 2 now.

md, the topic was "how to quit buying so many tools", owning a boat can slow that down.

In answer to your question. As a kid, I had a friend who used to kill sharks by riding them while tearing their gills out with his hands. I never tried it but was in the water with him a few times when he did it. Grabbing Groupers out of holes used to be pretty common practice. We 'old guys' still do it. Kids are too afraid that they might get cut up.

I'm not lucky enough to have a boat just yet, but I go boating on the weekends up Erie. My parents have a 32' Donzi. I was going to buy one this summer, but backed out & got a new truck. Next things on my list are another Corvette, and a nice fast Donzi (or similar).

Boats eat away at money. I have a 25' sailboat, 12' hobie cat, waverunner and a 22' pontoon boat, and I just gave away a 14' sailboat. For some reason all 4 have a place in my heart and all make dents in my wallet. Spend more time on my kayak.

Re: How To Quit Buying So Many Tools...

I just sold this boat.

Not mine, mine was better outfitted. Still have a 15' Hobie PowerSkiff and a couple of hydros.

The new fast boat will hit the water this spring. It's a prototype and I had an extra 270 Crusader engine kicking around. I hopped it up a bit and am hoping for around 300 MPH.

300mph is a little fast for my taste. Looking into the ice sailboats--over priced but very fast.

Nice rig Teet.. That boat would put the irony on the sarcasm of a boat helping you quit spending. I cry thinking of what it would cost to rig a reel/rod setup for all the holders.
Bass do hit fly's but not in the lathargic(?) waters I frequent. Smith Mt. Lake get's me throwing fly's, but thats a 2x a year visit at best.
I have to say this is the best thing I could have traded in MC racing for. Takes me out of the day to day when on the water.

A basic rod/reel combo goes for about $500 + they did not go with the boat. You can visit one of my favorite toy stores here; http://www.finestkind.com/store/index.html
