Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

This would depend on the type of job.

If get a bunch of tract houses to do, I'll go out and wire about 3 in a day at about 2.5 hours each. Sometimes I might even eat lunch.

If a custom home, it will probably take 3 days, at least 8 hours a day.

Work until the job is done.

Work when the weather is good.

If you are doing a remodel/reno, then you may have to work around the home owner, which means, when 5 comes around, get out.

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

I work just 8 - 9 hours a day. It depends on the work just like "BuildingHomes" said. If work is more than I often sit like 11-12 hours.

It was 36C on the job site today. I took 3 litres of water to drink. When I was done the last bottle, I quit and came home.

I got lucky this week, I'm finishing a basement and it's nice and cool down there. Sucks when I have to get something out of the truck though
When the conditions are tolerable, I'll work 8 hrs. a day during the week and 5 or 6 on Sat. if I have to. Never work on Sunday, need a days rest.

I usually go 2 weeks then get 2 days off. Or if we are really busy then I go 3 weeks and get 3 days off. 12 hour days.

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

Average work day this year has been 10-12 hours. One day we got in 13 hours.

Did a large tear off last month and worked a Friday, Sat, Sun. 12 hours on Fri 12 hours on Sat and a short 7 hour day on Sunday to finish the 55sq 8/12 12/12 tear off.

Two weekends ago worked another Fri, Sat, Sun, but also a full day on Mon and finish up on Tue. The job was a 50 year 60sq 10/12 tear off.

My fathers longest run working everyday is 42 days. When I labored for him years back we did 17 days straight.

about 40 hrs, field work for me now... this is a slow time in season....

about to come into another frenzy sept to snowfall......

then I have to bust my ass for 4 weeks in st john, after christmas.

I believe the pool biz may be one of the more intense "slam/rush" bizzes..... if I had 12 months do do a years work, I'd be one mellow fellow.

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

are any of you familiar with brian tracy?

in his seminars he states that working 8 hours a day is required to make it, everything over 8 is for success. The average self made millionaire became successful by working 6 days a week and an average of 60 hours a week.

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

I'm not entirely sure. My work and pleasure cross sometimes into a gray area. Weekends I don't work for someone else, but I try at my house or do stuff with the family. I'd say 40 hrs min a week to 60 in a busy week.

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

8-5 t-f in the field. Monday is office/admin. day for bidding, invoicing, and paying bills. I meet with new clients on monday at 10 and 2, more if I want to. the rest of the week I get up early and if there's paper work I want to do I do it, or the same after I get home. Mostly I keep up ok but I'm starting to fall behind this season... lot's of little jobs takes more work to put together. Saturday's I'll work if I want to, or to meet a deadline, Sunday's are off limits except for an emergency, or bad planning (if there's a difference).

yes, but he, if I am correct, also stipulates that it's not a plan to do it forever...

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

I didn't read that book but yeah and leave it there. If I am fooling around like I usually do it's residential electrical and I work 7 hours site, and 1 hour before I leave my office typical. Don't advertise any more so late night or weekend service calls are pretty rare. Commercial jobs are another animal. When I did those I worked 18 hours a day for up to 30 days on avarage. Ten years of that is all I had in me. But it payed off and I didn't have a family to take care of back then. Now they come first.

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

7 hours a day in the field

1 hour a week paper work

4 days a week

Making more money now than when busting 50-60 hrs a week.

The key to this sucess was raising prices significantly (100%-120%).

Benefit is more time: 1) with family
2) contemplating business
3) being more efficient
4) resting body for better production

Re: How Long You Work In A Day?

Last summer I had the mentality that if I worked two projects a day (15hrs a day)I would be better off come winter slow down. Not only had I made less money for the winter due to mistakes from being constantly tired and jobs dragging because of being burnt out, I actually ended up with severe Pnuemonia. This year one job at a time and 40hrs a week, and guess what the wifes much happier too.
