How To Be A General Contractor For $68.00!!

I didn't even know where to post this since it applies to all trades, but I had to share. In the fall and spring, they send out "Adult continuing education courses"

One of the courses this fall is:

"So you want to build your own House"
Learn to deal with: paperwork required, compliance with various agencies, building lots, selection, engineering, site work, septic system, sub contractors, foundation, framing, siding, mill work, roofing, mechanical, plumbing, electric, insulation, interior finish, punch list, landscaping, certificate of occupancy, and last but not least..... vacation plans, etc."

68.00 for 6 - 1 1/2hr classes! Taught by a building official in one of the local towns.

WTF? vacation plans? So when everything is going haywire you can plan the perfect vacation?? So look out guys... for 68.00 anyone can be a general contractor. - what an insult! Hey at least the "bookkeeping" class is 412.00! See? What I do is MUCH harder

Information is NOTHING unless you have years of experience applying it!

Why pay for it when the School of Hardknocks is free?

Yeah, I didn't think it was such a good deal, the $68 seemed high to me until I saw that they teach your farming along with it.

Re: How To Be A General Contractor For $68.00!!

Back when I first started contracting our current pres Jimmy Carter managed to get the interest rate up to 28%. No joke. 28%. Contractors were going broke like crazy. There was no work to be had anywhere. My best friend called me and wanted me to build a home for his parents in Guernsey Wyoming. I packed up the wife and kids in a borrowed camp trailer and we left Moab Utah for Guernsey Wyoming. Spent a week hand drawing the plans to scale with elevations, floor plans, sections, etc. Figured I would have to do the built by owner thing as I didnt have a Wyoming license. Took the plans to building dept and asked for a permit. The man behind the window looks at my plans and says "Hey these are nice" then he says 'Do you want it inspected?" I say "Huh?" He says "It will be $15.00 if you dont want it inspected, $25.00 if you want it inspected" I think for a second and I say "Whats it take to get a General Contractors License here?" He looks at a paper and says "You got $15.00?" I say "Yeah I got $15.00" He says "Your a General Contractor congratulations"

a deer acrost the hood, 12 GA in the back window
rack, and JD bottle in his back pocket stopped to
