How Do We Sleep At Night?

Whats this biz do to your sleeping hours?

I rarely sleep longer than 6 hours, but I hit a power nap when I get home. The only time I can get a good 8 or more is if I consume a little fine beverage before hand.

Sometimes the power nap steps in for the 6, then that puts me up in the middle of the freakin night.....like now.

I'd think after so many years of this crap I would become accustom...not.

How about everyone else?

Bob

Don't forget about the Little River Band, the Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac or Boston.

Re: How Do We Sleep At Night?

It depends if we just started a job .....then I'm up thinking about heading off any problems. Middle of the job...money and schedule on budget=good nights sleep. End of job=starting to think how we are going to roll into next job=starting to lose sleep.

Re: How Do We Sleep At Night?

Interesting thread.
I'm usually up until midnight finishing paperwork, or reading a book.
The dog and baby wake me up by 5.
Every month or two, I crash for 12 hours to set it all straight again.

Re: How Do We Sleep At Night?

I'm a nightowl, so I do me best sleeping during the day, which doesn't work well for a painting contractor, today I got up at 10 am went to church, came home, ate, went to bed at 2pm slept until 6:30.

My mind is always wrapped around the business, which I don't think is healthy, there needs to be a balance, but the sleep problem has been with me since birth, I'm just wired differantly.

Go to bed b/n 10 and 11 and get up at 5:20 AM Mon-Sat during prime working season. During the winter months, I go to bed about the same time and get up around 6 or 6:15.

Re: How Do We Sleep At Night?

My body must be making up for lost sleep during my 20's and 30's. I need 9 hours every 24 now. If I don't get them all at one time, a nap or two in the early evening makes up for it.
Gettin' old I guess...

Re: How Do We Sleep At Night?

I'm with Gordo, when things are going smoothly I tend to sleep a lil better, otherwise I lay in bed for 1-2hrs with the mind racing about the next day, the next 2 days, rest of the week scheduling things in my head and thinking how i want it to go. no matter if I go to bed at 9pm or getting home from the bars at 3-4am, I'm always up at 6am no matter what...even since I was a kid I've never been able to sleep past 7am?? sucks azz and then I try not to ever take naps for feeling guilty I'm not doing something more productive..viscious circle.

Seen a shrink a few yrs ago (actually seen doc that referred me) and came down to stress and anxiety, he put me on meds and slowed me down mentally so I was able to lay down and fall asleep like "normal folk" but after awhile I seen the drugs taking a toll and slowing down my "drive" or "initative" so I said fock it, guess I'll just live with the insomnia. 4-6hrs for me is no different than 2-4hrs, soon as I'm up I'm up and aint no stoppin it. Body gets run down in the dirt at times and even then if I try to catch a nap my concious wont let me...freak'n mental case I guess or obssive compulsive..I dunno LOL!!

Re: How Do We Sleep At Night?

I usually go to bed around 9 or 9:30. I will watch tv or so for about an hour in bed. Then I get up at anywhere between 4:30 or 5:30 to go to the gym before work. Depends on how far away the jobsite it. No naps after work though. I know if I did I would never get to bed at night.

Re: How Do We Sleep At Night?

Hey IHI, I was on those drugs also. They worked at first keeping me calm inside, but man they slowed me down. My production dropped off and I noticed my quality was too. Better to be a little edgy than all placid. Thats what makes us excel at what we do.
