Head'n To The Dyno Friday

Well, got everything assembled, going to call and confirm my dyno session for Friday tomorrow a.m., got to go and pick up some fuel since i think we have this figured back out now that i had the time to get my hands dirty like i did before instead of trusting the shops that screwed me over and took power away from me:headbash::pissed: So we'll see what happens, i'll post up the numbers once i get them back, but i'm predicting (if all goes well)

650hp @ 6600 rpm
615tq @ 5400 rpm

Going to wringe it out on 93 octane first and see how far i can push it before putting the 110octane to it. If i'm only giving up 20-30hp by detuning for pump gas, i'm all over it then when i want to turn up the wick, i'll know where to tune for race gas. Hopeing prediction numbers are low, but we'll see, dyno's are like race tracks when you pick up your first time slip after major mods...often times your disappointed, but as long as it's faster than last year (which is HAS to be) i'll be happy:cheers:

Re: Head'n To The Dyno Friday

Went and grabbed 5 gallons of race gas this morning- $32
then grabbed 5 gallons of the 93 octane i've been running for years- $10.69

Really hoping we're well into the 600+hp range on pump gas otherwise i dont think i'll be roll'n the streets as much, trying to justify $90+ fill up's in the car is'nt very justifiable. $2-3000/summer in fuel alone based on average yearly consumption racing/street driving is retarded as all get out. Originally with this engine 3yrs ago i set it upto run E85 since it was only $2.00/gallon, but lost the crank snout and ruined the entire engine when i had the shop go back through it i did the fuel test on the dyno back to back and we found 600hp on pump gas and i was happy with that...but now that the engine is built correctly...the shop screwed me and had the cam installed 10.5* advanced hence why my junk was so slow last year

jesus h macy, that is badass looking

I heard if you open the diopeter flow rate on the anis valves past 9*tdc and put in teflon coated retainers on the titwell pins, you can deflect the tapcon springs an additional L360@60psf for more hp on 93 octane jk

that is baddass

Sounds like the common misconception believed by so many reading those ridiculous car magazines, think of car craft, hot rod like HGTV, good for entertainment, but impractical in the real world

Getting anxious, gonna load it and the fuel up in the truck this afternoon and get ready to road trip tomorrow a.m. nice part is they have a big Cabella's store up in this town, so i'll get a lil man shopping done as well

That's why i've been crack'n trying to get this thing done and car put back together with changes for this season...so it's off my plate. We're still doing jobs from last year from the storm, and it's been crappey weather all week so i'm hoping next week we can dig in and blast things out. I'm not going to be running around the state/out of state this season racing since i want to get my garage built, so we'll probably restrain and just run the local points events with a few road trips is all this year.

I built a dyno shop several years ago. Big Mustang dyno...will load the car for all conditions, including a real 1/4 mile. Impressive. My buddy has been building the business now for a few years, and guys are coming from 5 states to run.

Re: Head'n To The Dyno Friday

joasis, i had a reply typed out about the chasis dyno but lost it, in a nutshell, they're a focking joke for race cars, that's why there's never any strapped to them since the numbers are extremely jaded by the loose convertors we run. My 388 i used to run was "supposedly" putting down 780ft/lbs tq but it was worth strapping on to verifiy everything i've ever heard about these things.

Any who, here's the results of today's fun:
Started out on race fuel to be safe, did timing changes and 34* was optimum. Carb was spot on from Pro system from where i left it last year, tried different spacers and stacks. Bested 644hp @ 6300rpm and 604tq @ 4900 using the 110 fuel.

Switched over to 93 octane which i normally run since i could'nt afford to drive this thing at $6/gallon. Lost 4hp and 7tq, it was a tad lean but the air is was good in there so i suspect by summer it will be right where it needs to be, but plugs looked fine, no signs of problems internally, so once we're at the track i'll finalize tune, but overall i'm extrememly happy!! not to shabby for a N/A pump gaz sbc in a tank of a car...i think i'll see my 10.50's that i've been going after finally I got a few leaker issues to fix before i drop it in but nothing major.

I have to give a great big thank you to Sput's, Mark and Jamie were excellent to deal with, fixed 2 issues i ran into but did'nt want to try and make worse until they looked at it, in minutes they had them taken care of and i just cant say enough of how nice of a shop these fella's run, and like i told Mark, from now on, i'll stay on the waiting list!!

Re: Head'n To The Dyno Friday

HERE is the video my buddy took while we were up there. Nothing exciting to see, but it's an engine dyno, it's not like we're making fireworks here:haha: Basically everything from when we first fired the motor to warm it up and then all the pulls we made.

The owner of the shop who was making the pulls and tuning told me after it was done, "this was a good session, i got to fix a few things as opposed to just pulling on it" I had an issue installing the cam belt i was unsure of so i left it so they could check it out, and my timing has always jumped around a bit which i've bought brand new distributors every season to make it settle down and all it ended up being was end play (up and down movement in the distributor) so it took them only a few minutes to diagnoise, repair, and make it all right.

But i just shook my head and told him, after the way the past 3 yrs have gone, i would prefer to just be the boring person and the boring engine, had too much drama with all these crooked azzed shop putting the screws to me thus far. Oh well, hopefully this year i can now just focus on racing and not be ashamed with how slow it was like last year. Nothing i hate worse than knowing there's a problem (way down on power) and not making it right, but at the same time, the money vested into this damn thing would make your squeekey butt squeel
