Hard Times Or Hard Up??

This was a first..... working for one of my Contractors today in the office - by myself, when this snarly, strung out guy shows up because he "remembered" just recently that my boss might owe him some money from 8-10 years ago. Apparently he did some work on a generator on one of the islands (couldn't even remember which island) and doesn't think he ever got paid. Then he wasn't sure if perhaps it was my boss that maybe just gave him the boat ride out to the island. That was awkward to say the least. Looked like he crawled out from under a rock, but I couldn't help wonder if he was just having hard times, or looking to fund his next fix. Takes BIG NADS to just show up, and state that you think someone owes you money - but you can't remember. Oh - and his 70yo mother rememberd him going to the island to fix this generator 8-10 years ago... but neither of them could remember who he was working for... Anyone else have a bizarre collection story?

De,

Maybe it's a CT thing. I had a former employee of 15 years ago show up with a similar story last winter. He was hard up and desperate. Maybe the word is going around as a technique to hit people up with.

Could be a CT thing! This damn state is getting so expensive to live in it is chasing people out. I have lived in CT all my life, figured I would die here... but not anymore! I am ready to move in a few years!

Hey, that's my (2 summers ago) helper, Kevin (who lasted 7 working days).
If you see him again, tell him he must return the company Skill Saw immediately.
I forgot about him until I saw this post, and this was like reading the lost and found of useless and incompetent helpers area.

In my state, if you owe someone some payroll, and can't find them, you need to turn it into the state treasury after a certain period of time. After that, it's out of your hands.

Well - in this case this guy was never on our payroll and never worked for us. That is the amusing part. Like I said... he couldn't even remember who he was employed by at that time! LOL It is possible it is one of those situations that someone hired him to work on the generator (which he claims he had to change glo plugs in a gas generator.. funny) and hired my boss to give him a boat ride to the island. Who knows... creeped me out though - sounded like his throat was burned up when he spoke.

Next time he crawls out from under that rock again, I will tell him to head your way... but I think the saw was pawned already.
