Hang Gliding - My new hobby
These are a few things I never knew about hang gliders that make me more eager to learn to fly.
They go up to 23,000 feet.
Travel more than 500 miles without stopping (of course).
It takes about 3 to 6 months to become proficient enough to launch from a mountain top.
The accident and fatality rate seems to be fairly low, or lower than I expected.
This is a picture of myself on the beach and a picture of hang gliders on a mountain top. On this day, there was about 100 people jumping from this 2,000 foot mountain top. This was my first lesson and the instructor is running on the left side of the Hang Glider. I think he is holding the glider so I don't drift into outer space without knowing how to bring the glider back to earth.
I am disappointed because I thought hang gliding was an extreme sport. Every person jumping from this mountain top was in their late 40's to late 60's. When they jumped from this mountain they looked about as excited as I am when I drive to the store to get my wife a gallon of milk.
Anyone interested in hang gliding is welcome join us in California and Nevada.

I'd like to think I had the stones to do this. Maybe someday(when I'm 60? ).
Very cool though thanks for sharing.
I would like to see videos from your POV while on the hand glider if they strap one on or something.

500 miles......... I'd say the major learning issue is landing somewhere so you can get back home!

I always took you as a man from your posts-anyhow, looks like a lot of fun and thank you for sharing. I had no idea they could/would go that high-would a special suit be necessary to keep from freezing? What about those who live in a flat state-is there hope for hand gliding?

I don't know much yet, but...
they use oxygen supplies of some type when flying high.
I don't know much about flat states. I'll ask my instructor.

I have been there and done that. I have several souring flights under my belt.
Someday I'll tell you how much fun it is to land in the upper reaches of a couple 60 ft trees. Take your time, when you are ready. Have some fun first.
