Re: The Guitar Thread

Let me add.
My wife is gone for the weekend, took the kids.
Just got done ripping through Crossroads, the Eric Clapton version, full tilt boogie.
Man did that feel good!
Yeah, I can play it.

Re: The Guitar Thread

Fender American Strat, Jackson, Fender bass. Marshall half stack, Vox practice amp and Digitech effects

I have been playing for 20 years and still love playing. I started on classic rock - Zepplin, Ted Nugent, Alice copper. As Metal started to get popular I got into Metallica, Megadeath, Anthrax. And then non-classical Cacophny, Racer X, Dream Theater.

Now I play in church and love playing with the choir
And my wife play piano and sings

The bottom picture is my daughter we are trying to teach her

Man, that's a little bundle of love! I'm teaching my daughter (who is 12) how to write songs. I never felt so close to anyone before.
Except my wife of course!

Someone else who knows of Dream Theater, rock on! I heard Pull Me Under on the radio back in the day, tracked 'em down and bought every album! Saw 'em w/ Queensryche in Portland several years ago (after Degarmo came back to Q) and loved every minute of it. The finale - both bands on stage rocking out. Nothing like two double bass drum set-ups to pound your soul to dust!

I have never seen Dream Theater live, I bet it was awesome, another concert I would have like to seen was the G3 with Joe satch, Paul Gilbert and John Perticcui (sp?) or with Steve Vai or Eric Johnson. I did see Queensryche with Metalica they were very good live, love the twin harmony solos

Re: The Guitar Thread

Many guitars...
My main squeeze; 1975 Yamaha SBG200, original machine heads, everything else changed... This guitar has a (genuine) "Original" Floyd Rose (purchased new in 1984 for $400...one of the first with fine tuners), Duncan SH-6 in the back, PAF from a '79 Explorer in the front. Epiphone Les Paul; Duncans (SH-6's), Grovers, completely rewired (pots and selector switch). A couple of "Peavey Predator" Plus' (loaded with Duncans (SH-8's)/Licensed Floyds) which I use for "odd ball" tunings and back up purposes. 1979 Ibanez "Artist"; stock except for a DiMarzio in the back, used primarily for slide. Upside down (I'm a southpaw) Peavey Raptor (Strat style) set up in C#; Alvarez acoustic for the campfire. GHS Boomer 009's on all but the C# guitar. One Predator is currently set up in "Motley Crue/Ratt" tuning (D standard); this one has 10's on it for the intonation factor.
I've always been of the belief that you don't need to spend thousands of dollars to have a decent sounding/playable instrument, any bolt-on neck can be "teched" to give better than average performance; the "sound" is in your hands, as long as the tool is adequate...
My three "set" necks are all "cheaper" models yet they perform far above their price point...

Rig? A/B box > one side to a Line 6 "Flextone III" 100w "head" w/FBV controller (purchased as a 212 combo; removed the "brain" from the combo and built a "fake Marshall" enclosure for it-confuses the hell out of people ). This either runs into the original 2x12 (8 ohm stereo) enclosure for small rooms or a 300w stereo (Peavey JSX) 4 x12 if it's gotta be loud. Other side of the A/B goes to a mid-70's Marshall 2204 (50w, Master Volume) w/BBE sonic maximizer, 31 band (mono) graph (for "difficult" rooms) and a SPX90II for "junk". The Line 6 gives me the necessary flexibility for "cover band" situations; the Marshall does everything else.
As you probably guessed by now, I primarily play rock/metal...

Comments in reference to the recent thread drift...? First; saw Queensryche in 1986 on the "Rage for Order" tour, saw Mindcrime, Empire, and most recently saw them (sans DeGarmo ) in a club here in Edmonton. IMO Geoff Tate is the best/most versatile rock vocalist to ever tread the boards...period. Saw G3/03 in Vancouver (four nights before the Denver DVD was recorded); Yngwie was drunk...go figure...IMO he stole the show nonetheless. Vai was a big influence on me as well; the sudden realization that McAlpine was also in Vai's band (there at the gig...when he walked out on stage) blew me away. Satch was Satch; note perfect and predictable...the weakest technician of the three by far. Petrucci is a monster...never seen him live; sure would like to...
Best show...? Probably Vai/Sheehan/Bissonette on the "Eat 'em and Smile" Tour, back in the day...

David Lee Who...?

Cheers, Ron

I seen Tony Macalpine Live in a small club it was on the edge of insanity album era, he was the best guitar play I ever seen live. I seen Mr. Big with Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan - Sheehan tore it up. I seen Malmsteen once he was good but he was obessed with throwing picks through whole concert. I think Steve Vai version of Little Wing when he sings and play's was best performence from G3, I didn't see it live, but here it is "http://www.youtube.com/v/jGqTcP9b_LI...</param><param

ETA: Autumn Wood beat me to it!

The whole band is freakin' amazing! Guess that's what happens when you form your band in the Berklee College of Music!
Prog rockers, to be sure, but with style and crunch like no other...

Re: The Guitar Thread

I was strolling threw a garage sale, me and another guy were looking at a couple of guitar case. The 1st one I looked at was a cheapo 12 string, I closed the lid and he came over to look at it and I went to look at the other one he was looking at. The top was kinda scratched so I looked threw the sound board for a label "The Martin Company", I closed the lid to the case and tried to avoid any eye contact with the other guy
$35.00 Martin 12 string (I love garage sales)

We should have "The garage Sale thread" i got my 1887 Martin at a garage sale however i paid quite bit of money for it but it was well worth it. I got a '66 gibson melody maker for 5 bucks but that was well before ebay. People watch their stuff more today.

Yeah, E-Bay really put the screws to the yard sale treasure finds.
I was deep in the Appalachians a while back and in most of the antique stores I saw prices about what I'd expect to see on E-Bay.
