Re: The Guitar Thread

Fender Strat, Alvarez 6 string acustic (beater that I bought at a pawn shop for fish camp) and a Blueridge BR-160 that I play most of the time. Great sound and good action. Playing mostly classic rock and own stuff. Only been playing for 2 years now, doing fairly well with rythems and working on the picking. Agree with playing with swollen fingers and slivers sucks. Been playing with unfinished birch hardwood flooring for the past week Nasty sliver cut on the inside of my index finger....bar chords ain't been fun for a few days.

Re: The Guitar Thread

I've been playing about 12 to 13 years now.

This pictures is a couple years old. Since then I've added a Marshall JTM 60 2x12 combo all tubed and a Crate GTX 2x12 120 watt solid state.

I also have a 1964 or 65 cant remember which year, but its a very nice sounding 40 watt tubed Fender Bandmaster.

This below is my Fender Strat, Gibson Les Paul, Takamine Acoustic, Ibanez acoustic and Fender acoustic.

Amps are Fender half stack that I sold about a year ago, and my Marshall mini stack. 15 watts, but it was my first amp lol.

With a screen name like 6stringmason, I wondered if you'd wander on in to this thread! Nice setup, man!

Love that tube amp sound...my Ampeg head was tube - oh, I liked the sound!

2 wives, a kid and a house sent me down another path though. That's ok, I really didn't have enough angst growing up to be a great rocker anyway!

K2;
Yeah I had a problem with the pick guard lifting, something to do with the finish curling the plastic. Martin repaired it no charge. I had the luthier lower the action, what improvement, well worth the little bit I had to pay.

I will be in Berlin for a CMC conference in late July what church do you play at? Maybe I can stop in and catch you in action. I'll be the one on the KZ1100

Re: The Guitar Thread

Ive got a Parker Pm 20 and an Epiphone acoustic. As far as amperage goes I own A crate bluevoodoo 120 head and hartke 4x12 cab for playing out and a crate vintage club for practice.

I used to have a way more extensive collection of guitars but I'm getting away from the music scene now. I have had several high end Ibanez, kramer aluminum neck from the 70's, fender's etc.

I play either metal or blues/rock,...mostly metal. Unearth, As I lay dying, Pantera and such.

Re: The Guitar Thread

Last guitar I owned was a Charvel-Jackson Rhoads DK2 Dinky. I miss it a bit, but if I was still playing, I'd probably be dead or in prison by now. It looked like this one, only with a different finish, and left-handed:

Now I just get drunk, and pick up others guitars, and play them upside down.

BTW, Slayer just doesn't sound right on an acoustic!

That's funny, I didn't know that. Maybe the Japs gave him a free guitar to play that thing on stage, or a million dollars.

Or maybe the Koreans, or the Chinese. These factories are always moving to the cheapest child labor they can find.

Martin tried the overseas thing for a few years then brought all the jobs back home... All the employees start by sweeping the floors. Keeps the rifraf out.

I think Martin will do the action but you have to find a local certified Martin luthier. They don't pay for a fret job or anything that would be considered normal wear and tear like spilling beer on it.

Re: The Guitar Thread

Yeah let me clarify, Martin referred me to a approved luthier, they payed for the pickguard repair, I payed for the action adjustment. It was well worth the investment.

I like it all! Mostly blues and bluegrass. Dad played with Carlos Montoya a few times so I got my start in classical Spanish and Flamenco. My toys.

Near perfect Les Paul goldtop. Has only a small buckle dent.

Hand made Enrique from the Basque mtns.

Orpheum 5 stringer.

When I really want to make noise........

My newest toy.

Re: The Guitar Thread

I have owned many guitars over the years ranging from an original Gibson 'F' hole jazz guitar to even a mini martin backpacker. After getting married I sold all of them except this one.

It's a hand built Woodtone made by the Kerr brothers in Australia. It has a solid cedar top with cocobolo rosewood back and sides and an ebony fretboard. I was lucky enough to have bought it before they became world famous luthiers and now every guitar is a custom guitar and costs 4 x more than it used to. I am not saying they are not worth it even at 4 x the price (in my opinion still a complete steal).

Re: The Guitar Thread

Toss me a link, man. The vid wouldn't play - said "embedding disabled by request!" I assuming that was Steven Tyler, which means "Walk This Way" w/ Run-DMC, yes? An acoustic version still wouldn't do much for me ... Sweet Emotion, yes, Walk this Way, no.

I just couldn't picture Fidy Cent pullin' out an acoustic to bang out his new ringtone!
