The Guitar Thread
Instead of completely hijacking a Decks and Fencing thread I was reading, I thought I'd start up one here for all the guitarists out there -
what's your ax and what style music do you play?
For me, it's a '72 Fender Tele Deluxe - original dual humbuckers, Tele solid body, Strat neck/head. N i i i i c e fat crunchy sound!
For the quieter stuff, I've got an Eterna 12 string acoustic...
DigiTech GNX1 for the delay and chorus effects that I love and a Fender Princeton Chorus amp makes it all loud. Back in the day, the whole set up was an Ampeg head running 2 2x12 cabs with about $5K in rackmount effects, etc...
Style ranges from heavy metal to kinda heavy crunch rock to melodic, rhythmic clean delay...never got into playing other people's music and never learned to read/write notes.
What's your setup?

I used to be a full-time repairer maker of mainly solid electrics, got to work on some nice and interesting guitars in that time. Can't do much more than strum chords on my Yamaha acoustic myself though. I like your Tele, got to work on a couple of those in my time (and a Rosewood Tele as well, just like George's)
I do hope you are going those string tails before you play

They were always trimmed when I played out - now just look at 'em! Kinda like the slovenly, unshaved fella wandering around the grocery store in his boxers and terry cloth robe - whadda mess!
But hey, if that's my worst offense, I can deal with that! At least there's no gunk built up on the fretboard and no salt deposits from sweating all over it and not wiping down afterwards...

Just before graduating college with an electrical engineering degree I went to work for a company called Light Wave Systems. They created a optical pick ups for bass guitars. It was actually really cool how it worked. zero feedback, but harmonics were a challenge with certain bodies. I was incharge of reworking the electronics and making the circuit boards off the computer for production. I did design a passive circuit that when the player plugs in the unit powers on...and when unplugged battery power would disconnect. 6 months in....I finished everything they wanted and found myself out of a yab. I'm not even sure if they are still around but I remember there were somewhat "famous" players that would fly in just to play in the studio (my lab). We started working on 6 string guitars pick ups but it was very hard to get good sound. I only know 3 cords...and I suck at all of them!!

Lucky for me then that I got outwitted trying to post photos. I'm shooting for the Willie Nelson look with my Alverez acoustic. We got a long ways to go before needing a strap to hold it together though.
Play mostly my own stuff 'cause I'd rather play than learn.
Good Luck

picked up this washburn 91 kc44v floyd rose action around 94 or 95 to replace my beloved ibanez RG custom thinbody which was stolen from my BEQ while deployed to Haiti. Have a crate FW120 and a few old dod pedals. Mostly played scales and lead and some classical, dont play much anymore, narled up my fret hand on a dive job in 99 (left pinky is frigin useless now) and don't really have the dextarity anymore especially when hands are cold

No knowledge of your instrument so I can't relate. I speak of what I know (most of the time!)...and I know guitars, at least enough to know I love 'em.

I hear ya, now working a tough on the hands job, it's harder to play as much as I used to. Bummer about the stolen piece...gotta be a special place somewhere hot for those thieves!
I gotta figure out my summer schedule and I'll get ahold of ya about heading out there...

New guy here, first post.
Not a big fan of peavy but huge fan of Eddie Van Halen. EVH signature Peavy Wolfgang, Ernie Ball Music Man, Ibanez rx, Takamine Acoustic. Wired up through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier with Marshall stack. Not a whole lot of effects, just a line6 delay and evh phaser. Need a chorus! Also have keys, drums, and bass. Love being a musician!! Style is about the same as you Mac.
Never really thought to much about getting a tele but after hearing what Brad Paisley does with it I want one!!!

Gotta love the Martin original owner "lifetime" warrantee .. U.S.A manufacturing at its very best. Someone should have put a couple of them Martin boys in charge of keeping jobs in the US......I've had My 1971 D-35 back to the shop for this and that over the years and Martin never tried to get a dime out of me.... I figure I have another 20 years left on the warrantee, maybe 30, 40'd be pushing it.
