Gay People, Please Come To Toronto!

Well it finally happened. Toronto has a new logo...
"We're as gay as it gets" This is our way of attracting gay American tourists and their money! It was in today's Toronto Sun newspaper.
I'm as open-minded as the next guy, but frankly I think this sucks, (no pun intended). Bad enough we have a gay parade every summer, now we want to be known as the Gay Capital of Canada
I know this is a very touchy subject (no pun intended) but I'm wondering what your 2 cents worth is?

I honestly say, why would you care? Gay people are excellent customers. They are meticulous (demand quality work), are usually educated and make better money and once you are "in" as a contractor they get you a ton of work through referral.

Why should one care? Because it give special treatment to a specific group, there'd be a huge outcry if it were "We're as hetro as it gets", any time special treatment is given to a minority (lesser part, not race), without necessity (necessity=handicap folks, etc), the majority should be pissed.

Plus have you ever seen one of those gay parades.

I think there is some advantage to having the queers concentrated in certain places. Makes a Sodom and Gomorrah solution a bit easier.

What special treatment? Its target marketing. Its not saying "gay people come here and live tax free". I agree with you that its hokey bullsh*t. If someone tried "Come to Havertown, the last white community in America" the ACLU and NAACP would have a case in the Supreme Court by Monday.

I've given up hollering and screaming about the preferential treatment of minorities. You just shake your head and smile sardonically at the way political correctness has been taken to an extreme of reverse prejudice. What are you gonna do? I'm not leading any revolution or joining the Klan. I go with the flow and figure out how to capitalize on it as a businessman. That was more my point.

The same liberals that applaud this stuff now will be the ones crying foul in 20 years when this stuff gets completely out of hand and their personal freedoms are in jeopardy. SSDD

Re: Gay People, Please Come To Toronto!

First off, don't ever read the Toronto Sun. It's not a real newspaper.

But if it's true, I'm opposed to it. The gay community represents a small portion of our citizens and they are a huge minority. Why should our slogan represent such a small demographic?

But I will say this much, the Gay Pride Parade brings in far more revenue than any other parade in this province, and possibly Canada. It does it annually and shows consistent growth. It is a major tourist attraction. Carabana is an effin joke. G.P.P. only helps our economy.

I have no problems with the gay community at large and I agree that they are often very educated, meticulous and loyal clients.

But to have that as our slogan? That blows! (no pun either).

Why is it a "Gay Marketing Advisory Group" instead of a "Marketing Advisory Group", maybe looking for preferential treatment from a gay Kyle Ray, and who hired them, let me guess, Kyle Rae. Who's paying for that?

Quote:
"The tag line 'Toronto: As gay as it gets' comes out of people talking about their cities as being gay-friendly. Toronto's not gay-friendly -- it's gay," Rae said.
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2...65953-sun.html
So according to openly gay Kyle Rae, Toronto "is gay", Ron, Heritage, George Z, I had no idea, did the flamboyant Kyle Rae ask his constituents if they want to be known as the "gay as it gets" city, is that the best place to spend tax dollars.

Quote:
Research shows gay Americans take more trips, spend more money on vacations and are more likely to have a passport compared to their heterosexual counterparts, according to Tourism Toronto.
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2...65953-sun.html
I don't buy it, let me guess the stud(y) was probably done by a "Gay Marketing Advisory Group". I think a family of four is going to spend as much as 2 homos, I'm sure the study is skewed so it works out the way they want it. Even if it were the case so what, gays make up such a low number that they won't compare to the numbers of non-gay folk in purchasing. What the campaign might do is increase the number (small percentage) of gays while at the same time reducing the number (large percentage) of non-gays.

From what I'm hearing from the two gentlemen from Toronto that posted, is that they are opposed to it. I would guess the majority is opposed to the spending of taxpayer's money on a gay campaign, but once again give a gay man an office and he'll ignore the wishes of his people and run with his personal gay agenda and try to make you feel guilty if you don't go along.

In short you have a gay guy in charge that want's to surround himself with gays at the tax payers expense, no surprise there.

Kyle Rae

Quote:
He was first elected to Toronto city council in 1991 as a left-leaning councillor filling the seat vacated by Jack Layton (who was running for mayor at the time). He campaigned as an openly gay candidate and beat his closest rival by 1003 votes. He became the city's first gay councillor. During his first term, he sided with June Rowlands in a failed attempt to introduce affirmative action in the city's fire department.

Why is anytime you see something like this and do a little research, it turns out to be exactly as you thought it would?

You're not stereo typing them are you?, that's not PC.

But if you want to stereo type gays, I have a friend that's a homicide cop that could tell you some stories, of course you won't hear about them in the news.

The top six U.S. male serial killers were all gay, so if you make it out alive they pay on time.

http://www.familyresearchinst.org/FRI_EduPamphlet4.html

I really don't care if someone's gay, but I'm tired of it being shoved in my face and at my expense and all the other taxpayers expense.

Hehe.
Toronto has always been known for it's gay culture, and it doesn't/didn't need advertising.

I've done many jobs in the past in T.O. and the gay customers were usually the easiest to deal with, followed by Italians.

They say that with this coming season's lineup, the Toronto Argonauts may have to come from behind.

And most know what happened to them. I thinks we should have a "straight" person's parade, and a huge newspaper article talking about all the former homosexuals who've turned straight, and then we should have a show called "Straight eye for the Queer Guy" , then we should talk about how closed minded all the homosexuals are when a straight person gives offers their belief, then etc..... NO preferential treatment!
