Found Money.

The other thread on easy money made me think of this.

In rural Colorado the power co's are a co-ops and i guess that means owner owned. So i guess they have rule on profit making /sharing bla, bla bla. So the one I belonged to paid "capital credits" exactly 15 years after the "service year" you had the service with them.

So in the early 90's i had some interest in a very rural weekly newspaper, (generallly about 6 pages), and i'm reading through the paper and there is a list of about a thousand name that the Power Co. is "trying to find" for capital credit refunds. My name is on the list. Not only my name but another dozen names of people I know or knew.

So i call the Poco and yes i have capital credits comming for that year but I also have capital credits comming for about the next 17 years. The credits are overages in payments less expenses form 15 years prior and for me they were generally about a hundred bucks a year and always paid just before Christmas. So there really is a Santa. I also contacted the dozen or so people that i knew, that they were "Looking for" and let them know they had some x-mas money comming, every year..

So the bottom scoop is that the Poco is required to advertise in a newspaper to "notify" people of moneys owed, but, there is no requirement on which paper they advertise in. Soo the Poco finds the most obscure low circulation podunk, newspaper they could possibly find to list the names they owe money to. And of course if the money for the service year is not claimed within 2 years of the credit year the money goes back to the poco.

Soo, if you find yourself on a list of moneys owed you might just want to check it out. I was happy i did although i wish it was for 1.0 mil or more but $1700 over 17 year was ok too....I've been out of that service area for about 15 years and I think this last check was my last one.

Yeah, I'll come down to see you on one of my cardio walks the doc has me on. I'm a few blocks away. But Hancock and Boulder has a park, a church , a house, and a house. So I guess your not on the corner.. Should be handy having that hospital a block away for when you put a nail through your finger. Did it fall off yet?? Gimme an address so I can come down and give you some chit.

Back on topic.

My mom recently found about $150.00 + $450.00 in interest she put in a Christmas club in 1953. A relative came across it in a newspaper ad too.... Do I need to explain what a Christmas Club is?? I haven't heard that term in a while.

Its in the alleyway between Platte and Boulder. (alley is between Hancock and Sheridan) Not sure when we will be over there yet. I want to get a few days in there to set it up. After I put some sort of alarm system in of course. I hope some time next week. I will keep you posted.

I'll check it out. I think I'll file a report with the neighborhood watch that some "strange characters" are moving in.
