Flats Fishing In A Cabo 36

It only takes money to own a boat; no skill or common sense required. My best guess is 10 grand to recover and anywhere from 20 to 80 thou to repair, depending upon if the motors were torqued going in (likely). Dumbass.

You'd think a nice boat like that would come with reverse.

I'd call your estimate conservative, he's up in there pretty good. There also may be fines for destruction of wetlands.

I've seen this happen a few times where reefs were involved. In the Keys they charge for reef destruction by the sq.ft.

Types of boaters

1- Those who have run aground.

2- Those who have yet to run aground.

3- Those who lie about running aground.

Something like that.

Re: Flats Fishing In A Cabo 36

I have run aground 4 times:

The first was when I was about 14 in a 16' ski-boat, the driver was watching the skiers instead of where he was going. No damage, sand beach, low speed.

The second was at night, high speed, in another small ski-boat on a narrow creek. We jumped entirely across a small peninsula and never slowed down, though we did crap our pants and spill our beers.

The third was in the Wilmington inlet; we lost a motor and got trapped on a bar. That was a life or death moment but we were able to get off. That was a 26' Seabird.

The fourth was on the flats in Corpus Christi, and our only mistake was stopping. We had to push it for almost a 1/2 mile to get to deep enough water on that one, although we were in a flats boat that only needs wet grass to run on (when you are on plane).

I wasn't driving for any of them, and didn't(and wouldn't) ride with any of them but the last again.

More info. The boat was stolen and run in without electronics. To refloat it, they brought in a tug, attached a tow rope to the nose and drug it out, sacrificing all of the running gear.
