That's a .44 Rem. Mag. and there's a ton of small stuff that will out perform the most popular .30 cal rounds. It all depends on what you're doing and where.

There's also a lot of our guys that are stuck with the little 5.56 deployed all around the world and still kickin' A's.

Re: A Few Facts About Guns!!!!!!baaaaaad Guns

I currently have the hots for the H&K 417...7.62mm version of the M4 PDF fact sheet. I'm hoping it's as sweet as it sounds. No fouling in the gas tube, etc.

Basic HK417 Facts/Info (as claimed by Heckler & Koch Defense, Inc.): According to the fact sheet, the HK 417 will be available with 12, 16, and 20-inch cold-hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrels, and all barrels will feature a 1:11-inch twist rate. All barrels will be threaded for silencers/sound suppressors, flash hiders (flash suppressors) and muzzle compensators. HK Defense Inc. claims that barrel life will "easily exceed 15,000-20,000 rounds with little or no accuracy degredation." The HK417 will take 20-round polymer mags. The weapon also features a 4-sided free-floating rail system/forend rail tube (a.k.a. "quad rail" system) wich whill accept the same quick-detachable HK AG-416 underbarrel-mounted 40mm (40x46mm) GLM (Grenade Launcher Module). The HK417 fact sheet states that during a desert firing test, an HK417 prototype (2nd design stage) fired more than 15,000 rounds of assorted 7.62x51mm/.308 Win. ammo, including M118LR, M80 ball, M993 AP and a variety of commercial ammo with bullet weights ranging from 125 grains to over 175 grains "without a single parts failure or stoppage. The document also claims that during an accuracy test, an HK417 carbine in "assaulter" configuration (12" barrel) averaged 1.3 MOA between four shooters firing multiple 5-shot groups at ranges between 100-500 yards.

Now I just have to see where I placed my copy of the Constitution with all those WAY COOL amendments, guaranteeing me the RIGHT to own just such a "tool."

And what's with the 3 goof balls running for el presidente. I love guns...and yet I have NO desire to hunt animals, nor shoot targets for the sake of shooting targets.

I am not represented by any of them. They seem to think guns are only for hunters and target shooting.

Didn't I read somewhere something about the "right to life, liberty and the pursuit (not the Escalade commercial) of happiness. My guns help me ensure those 3 "RIGHTS" remain intact for me and the family, and all y'all for that matter.

Silly politicians. Definitely not our best and brightest this time around.

I'm with you on that. I don't hunt, do a little target shooting with handguns and a decent air rifle. I own the real thing, but I got a good air gun with a decent scope and thats my favorite. Just like having them. Politicians are gun owners and carpenters when running for election. After elections they go back to just being politicians.

Re: A Few Facts About Guns!!!!!!baaaaaad Guns

I hunt for food that hasn't been injected, genetically altered or fed a stream of waste and chemicals. I also keep certain weapons for home and personal protection most of them will work in the woods as well.

I really don't see a full on frontal attack coming to where I feel the need to own a full automatic assault rifle with all of the toys.

IMHO If I had to own just ONE weapon it would be a 12GA pump shotgun. You can hunt most anything on this continent with it and if anybody breaks into your house, that Ka-chink sound is one of the most recognizable on earth.

Re: A Few Facts About Guns!!!!!!baaaaaad Guns

I dont hunt anymore but i still enjoy targets and skeet once in awhile. I sold most "about 80%" of my guns but i still have 41 long guns and 4 pistols. They were nice to look at but a pain to keep maintained, for me it was the history of the firearm and the evolution over time. I was also worried about theft, a fire or who knows what will happen down the road with guns so i sold most of them while they were worth something and put the money in the bank.

Re: A Few Facts About Guns!!!!!!baaaaaad Guns

Trout, that's my problem too.

I've finally decided to break it all down to what I can use.

I have a lot of useless collectables, pretty cool but useless, look for them on Gunbroker.com.

What does one really need?

A high powered air rifle for those pesky squirrels around the house.
.22LR or two just for plinking or squirrels in the woods (supper)(3)
.22 mag. pistol (home defense)
.22 mag. rifle for small varmints
.223 for varmints that are farther away and maybe a Mini-14 (home defense)
.243 midrange deer/hog round
.270 same but a touch more range
.30-30 Just too cool, gotta keep it
.30-40 Up for sale, updated and Tefloned
.30-06 an oldie but a goodie
.44 R Mag for the brush.
Add on a bunch of shotguns from 16 GA to 12GA, They all have their purpose, right? Even if I don't shoot skeet or trap anymore?(home defense?)

And then we get to the pistols...........

Re: A Few Facts About Guns!!!!!!baaaaaad Guns

I thought that I might post this for all of you gun owners.

Disable your guns when not in use. I lost many useable weapons due to break-ins in the early '70's. 5 times in one year and I wasn't in a bad neighborhood.

In house I have three active pistols and one active shotgun. The rest have major parts missing such as bolts, cylinders and firing pins, they are kept in a cardboard box that looks like many others in a place far,far away until needed (hunting season).

300+ pound gun-safes work too.
