F#$% I Hate Dish Network!

Once again, no satellite for the weekend. This is the 3rd box I have gone through in 8 months!

And of course, it always happens on the weekend as well!

I kicked Dish to the curb almost a year ago. We were constantly losing signal and if it snowed or was raining you could forget about watching tv. Since we could only get dial up here, we decided to bundle with the cable company. So far I'm pretty pleased with everything from them.

ALL satellite networks (Dish, DirectTV, etc.) frequently changed their "downlink" codes to their home boxes all the time... because there are so many hackers selling hacked boxes, hacked cards, hacked memory units, etc. Everytime they change new, another new hack scheme/software/hardware will be born followed... it's a hacking war thing.

Bull. They overcharge for a substandard system designed to last a
few days or weeks. If they charged normal instead of ripping people off,
they would have no hacking issues (all providers do).

If your sick of their BS just google FREE TO AIR satellite systems.

Most of these guys with the 'hacking issues' as you call it got burnt
by their own greed. They got low wage countries like russia and
korea to write the security codes for a dollar a day and then could
not beleive that some 3rd world guys would sell the codes off for
money to live on.

We've had DirecTV for awhile now with zero problems, other than a broken remote which they promptly replaced. Heavy rain, snowstorms, wind, general bad weather has no effect on our signal. We have the HD dish and box, not sure if that's any better. I pay $6 a month for the optional equipment insurance, covers me for everything.

Re: F#$% I Hate Dish Network!

I have had the Dish Network for 3 1/2 years now and think it is great. About 5-10 minutes once or twice a year, the signal goes on the bonkers, but that at least has a weather related phenomina to rationalise why it occurred.

When I had Com-Cast cable, things would be down for hours and hours on end, multiple times per quarter. There usually was no bad weather to blame it on either.

The only problem I had with Dish Network, was the billing for a returned bad receiver. Yes, I had 2 go out within 3 1/2 years so far. They promptly expedited the new receiver to me each time.

This second time though, they were claiming that I did not senf the old one back in and they couldn't find the records of it.

I had the shipping reciept, and even with the tracking number, they were billing me about $ 300.00 plus fees, until I finally got both SBC/AT & T and Dish Network on the phone at the same time until they agreed that it was all worked out.

Funny ting though. I had dione that the previous 2 months in a row, with both parties on the phone, at the same time, but they had not written log of the corrections that were supposed to have been made.

One more thing.

If you really really want to get things taken care of for pricing without a certain deal expiring, then contact the "Customer Re-Acquisition" center for Dish Network. They can deal everything.

My YP rep hooked me up with someone he knows, so all of that YP ad money actually went for something good.

We learned our lesson with the dish in Tennessee. Every time the weather got bad the dish would lose signal. Just so happens, in tornado country; when the weather gets bad, you kinda need to watch the weather report. No can do with a dish.

I guess you must have cable too, if you're still on line or do you have a separate dish system for that?

Re: F#$% I Hate Dish Network!

I have Dish but I also just got a digital-analog converter box. I hooked up the converter box and I have crystal clear picture of all the local channels. I now have a good solid backup to when my Dish goes out due to storms. I've had Dish for five years now, same receiver too. I haven't had any problems and the package price has stayed the same over the five years with the exception of one minor price increase. I do lose signal in the worst storms but it's not too often.
