EBay No Good No More ??

Is it just me? or has the majority of eBay sales gone do the dogs in the last year or so?

I won a bid last year on a scientific calculator for my son. It came with one one line of the screen dead.

I bought some genuine Epsom ink carts and they were all date expired.

Just the other week I bought a cell phone battery, it never came and the seller is jerking me around.

And there was something else that I've forgotten (obviously on purpose)

It just ain't worth the small coins you might save, IF the crap were as advertised.

Is eBay the new hangout for snake oil salesmen?

I remember when one could get good stuff cheap and quick. I remember when it was just the average Joe and Jane selling stuff outa their basements, now its a get rich quick scam scene.

or is it just me?

Yah I know, some guys can still buy antique tools and stuff from REAL people, but 99% of eBayers are thieves. IMO

Yup I will agree with you for the most part. I have noticed a lot of that crap going on also. I was looking at some new Mac air tools the other day and as I looked closer they were fakes, also there was some fake snap on tool boxes on there too. You deffinetly have to watch your back!!

Re: EBay No Good No More ??

A few weeks ago, I bid on some equipment and won the bid for 3500.00. I had a bad feeling because the seller sold weird electrical stuff (oxymoron?) up to that point and now he was selling this stuff? I asked him three times for the serial number and three times he sent me a payment reminder sans s/n.

I didn't pay for it and he reported me to the eBay. I don't care...I have bought 25.00 worth of stuff over the last 4 years and can do without eBay.

That's a good move! You do have a sixth sense.... Don't worry, register a different new nick/account to ebay then you are new & refreshing again!

Funny this should come up. I bought a used circ. saw there about a month ago. Just yesterday the windings came un-done and I had to leave a job in the middle of no mans land to get to a store to buy another one so I could finish the job. I won't buy used again. Not from e bay or any one else. A simple job that should have taken 3 hrs and made $300 turned into 6 hours for $150.

Lesson learned

DaArch, I here you on this one . But the old saying, [ Buyer Beware ] should be thought of a long time before you ever bid on anything you can't personally see. Do your homework and use the tools that E-bay has . I like to sell stuff and have been amazed at what people will pay . Old car parts taking up space, gone. Old tools, gone . And cash in my pocket .

First thing i do is look at the shipping costs. If they are out to lunch I just skip on to the next item.

well glad to see I'm not the only one. I've filed a Paypal claim and really shouldn't lose anything, but no more eBay for me. The time I spent just ain't worth it.

I think it time we all spread the word ..... but sell you eBay stock first

ebay was decent when first launched and now that it's gotten big, the scams have infested it..don't trust it anymore and as mentioned above, the shipping costs are laughable. I have now heard horror stories on people wanting to start an e-commerce business getting the short end by ebay's fees and scam drop shippers...just a good idea gone bad imo.

Re: EBay No Good No More ??

I've landed some great deals on ebay, and not just a long time ago but recently also. I bought a 12" bosch compound slider a month ago and it was exactly as described - complete and in excellent condition.

I have to confess, I'm biased. I have an ebay affiliate account and make a little money from one of my websites (can't name it here cuz of forum rules), but if you pay attention to ALL the details - feedback rating, shipping, return policy, etc... there are still good deals to be made.

Of course there are a lot of scammers out there, and lot's of "Made in China" crap, but that's the nature of the internet. Bottom line, if there is the slightest reason for doubt, it's probably a bad deal. But there are plenty of good, reputable sellers on ebay, who are offering some good deals. I know because I'm one of them.

You guys need to look at the seller's ratings of past history first before any bid clicked/committed? Is it around 1,000 or above for positive ratings? Any negative/bad?.... also read comments from other buyers, see what they buy, hear what they said about this seller's products, etc., research by Google items first to sense any market truth or pricing about your items first before bid, etc., so on.
