Re: Drop Foot
Any idea of the ramifications? Does that client still work?
I don't wish this on anyone, but I hope your response is serious. It is not me. It is my oldest son. |

Re: Drop Foot
Wow, just took a quick read, Sorry to hear about your son.
I also read it could be temporary or permanent. What are the docs saying?

Re: Drop Foot
Just what you said, temp or permanent. My understanding is it nerve damage with no cure. This happened overnight with no warning from what he tells me. He was a truck driver, got up one morning and had to catch himself against the truck. He thought his foot had just gone to sleep. Doc thinks it was caused from the way he would rest his foot on the door while driving long distances. Actually, it was his knee against the door. This doctor told him this condition was noticed a lot durin gone of the ww's in german troops that wore the high laced boots.
I talked to a guy a few days ago who says the doctor he took his daughter to in Nashville said she had a tumor within the sheath that covers the sciatic nerve. Since this tumor is not a lump and because of the location of it, it cannot be operated on and she will eventually suffer from drop foot. She already wears the brace. |

Re: Drop Foot
I had it @10-12 years ago.
Lasted about 4 or 5 months. My left foot and leg. Seems for me though that it was a manifestation of my ongoing sciatic nerve problems.

Re: Drop Foot
Neolitic, did you try to exercise it or anything during that time or just wait it out until it came back on its own?
Did you have any feeling in it before it got better? Btw, I'm guessing he has had this about 3 or 4 months now. |

Re: Drop FootQuote:
business. Climbing was out though, as the ankle wouldn't lock, making ladders nearly impossible. Sometimes there was tingling, like when your foot is asleep, but usually not. That would have been a nice reminder in the beginning. Since then, when the sciatica is really irritated, it's a blinding stabbing pain. Can just cause the knees to buckle right out from under me. Biggest help I've found is buying pants an inch larger in the waist, no tight belts, wearing suspenders and tool vest instead of an apron. I have noticed that hours of driving bother me, if I don't unbuckle my belt. Hope he's better soon.

Re: Drop Foot
I wasn't talking about the seat belt!
Don't want him getting an extra ticket, or worse.

Re: Drop Foot
Sorry to hear about your son Boman.
My client doesn't still work, but that's because he was already retired when it developed. In his case it is expected to be permanent, he's already had it a number of years. He tells me that there is a little pain involved and the tingling on occassion. He has to take it real careful on the stairs and wears the brace. He goes to PT regular but it doesn't seem to help the drop foot much. Having a litany of other ailments he considers this to be one of the lessor ones. I hope it works out temporary for your son. Best of luck to him. Good Luck Dave
