Alot of stupid people get suckered into "deals" like this. I however am not one of them. Total scam IMO. They sucker the consumer on TV that they pay by the ounce, most morons dont realize its by a Troy ounce. They also dont say what happens to the diamonds, they sure as hell are not returning them. We all know that diamonds and other stones are normally worth more than the gold. I am also sure that they are not honest of the scaled weight, if you were smart enough to know the scaled weight and quality of the gold with out the stones "if any" then would you send the gold to them to begin with? If you were that knowledgable then you would already have contacts for a more reputable dealer.

This is where personal responsibility comes into play. Do some shopping around before you commit. They're there to make money, not give you the 'most' they can. Thats just not good business. Of course neither is saying they give the most out of anyone, but hey, its their gimmick, and if people are gullible enough they'll fall for it. These same people probably answer the Nigerian lottery emails too.
