Re: Dog Bite

Years ago my dobbie bit my girl friend, now wife, and I wasnt sure what to do about it. My buddy was a K-9 sherriff and introduced me and Rex to a trainer. The trainer had my wife sit next to Rex for 10 minutes and then had me come over and have Rex lie on his back with me holding his neck down. Rex struggled at first but soon I was sitting on him gently while holding his throat with one hand and petting him with the other. This went on for about 5 minutes. Then my wife came over while I was holding Rex down and petted him and slowly took her hand with mine on his throat for another 3 minutes. After the sesion My wife and I were to walk Rex on a short leash with my wife in control of the leash. After 4 sesions and when my wife could hold Rex down by herself Rex would obey her as he would me. They became good friends. Our last dog, another Rex, 140 LB Akita was trained at 4 months old with this method because of all our grand kids. Every one of the grandkids could sit on Rex, pull his ear, poke his eye and he would sometimes moan but never bite. I had four Rexes and one Spot and while all were very protective they knew who not to bite. Im with you on putting dogs down with a 22 but only when its time. The first Rex ended up at the vet to be put to sleep and he knew something was up. I really didnt like having Rex die on a stainless steel table and watch him fade away. The other Rexes and Spot are burried on our property and they lived long happy lives. Good luck with your Rot.

Re: Dog Bite

Dog has gotta go. What if she got bit on the face and scarred her for life? Girlfriend or not, you're lucky she didn't sue you.

A dog is a dog is a dog. Ain't nothing mysterious about it.

In asian countries like Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thai, etc. They eat all kinds of dogs... 7-courses menu including frozen blood on a dish, fried meat, stews, soup, roasted, liver/heart stuffings, etc.. Now, that' appetite!

Not necessarily- When I was a kid, my Mom and I went to the humane society to look for a dog, and the people working there recommended not to get a particular Doberman because "he bites kids". They were still going to give him away, but not to a family with kids.

Re: Dog Bite

There are alot of options other than putting your dog down.
Check with local rescue leagues, possible training for the dog. Go to the local petsmart, they always have pets from no kill shelters (usually on weekends) that are up for adoption
They may be able to take her from you.

Drinking tonight?

I'd shoot a dog just because it looked like it might bite me, and I'd apologize to nobody for it.

Animals were put here on the earth for our benefit, not the other way around.

Keep it professional or take it off line somewhere but quit stinking up the forums with this kind of stuff.

Re: Dog Bite

Sounds to me like you have an alpha female thing going on that probably won't change. The GF needs to get the dog on it's back and hold it down with her knee. She really has to show she is the top dog. If the real dog doesn't submit then there is no fixing the problem just really because it was not how the dog was trained. Nobody's fault, just the way it is. My dogs have to be submissive to people and especially kids.
