Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

I know our families' tradition sounds a little pathetic, but we've been doing it for 16, 17 years or so. We take the family out to Pizza Hut, grab enough for all day Christmas so wife doesn't have to cook, and we leave a sizable tip for our waitress, enough for them to make it worthwhile to work on Christmas Eve. We figure that it sucks working then, so we try to make it nicer for them.

Dunkin Donuts also a necessity for Christmas morning along with everyone in PJ like attire....for the day. No jeans, t-shirts, etc. Frumpy I guess would be a good word

Re: Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

Sounds like a tradition worth preserving.

We don't have a tradition per se, we gather and have dinner together, talk and play games. No TV, just seasonal music and family time.

No christmas eve traditions here I will usually go to my buddies familys party, they have always been like a second family to me. On christmas we always have christmas dinner at someone in the familys house and exchange presents. Thats about it. Framerman, I really like your tradition I love Pizza hut lol .

That's a good one, framerman. We're starting a new one by not making a big meal on Christman Eve either, too much work when the kids don't even eat because they're to anxious to open the gifts. Let them open them earlier and have plenty of time to horse around afterwards. Christmas morning has the kids waking us up at about 6 AM - pj's till big dinner and church time.

Re: Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

Christmas eve we go to a relatives house and have a seafood dinner (the whole 9 yards shrimp lobster filets etc) and to much wine. Exchange presents after desert and coffee.

Christmas morning take my son or niece to a sleazy diner and order a light breakfast. Leave a Christmas card and a very large tip for the waitress. Tried to teach my son random acts of kindness and it just carried on.

We have a big family dinner at our place on Christmas Eve, then wake up early with immediate family and open gifts. Then we go out to a movie and brunch. Merry Christmas To All!!

Re: Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

I am the holiday cook, so Christmas Eve or Day, whenever the kids can be here, I do the large dinner...it is all about family. Now that I have two grandkids, the next several years will be to look forward to.

My wife and little girl are heading for Arizona today, to spend time with her mother for a week or so, and I have to work...so no tradition this year......I will spend the day doing something...woodshop or the land and cut firewood.

Re: Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

First my wife and I have a fight over decorating the tree. Then we snack and open presents and Christmas morning one of the girls puts baby Jesus in his crib. Were not religious but we still do the baby Jesus thing each year.

We decorate the tree and listen to Christmas carols. Except this year, my Christmas carol vote was overridden by two teenagers who wanted to listen to Pink.

I get drunk and yell obscenities at the family.

Just kidding. Usually we go to my parents house, but the wife has to work 3-11pm so its an all day thing tomorrow with her family and mine.

Re: Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

Oh I forgot, we go look at Christmas lights after Pizza Hut. One place in particular has a bazillion lights and displays.

My wife is playing carols on the piano, my cat is climbing the tree and knocking off the ornaments, and I'm sitting here enjoying the after effects of the meal we ate.

Life couldn't be better.

Today is my berf-day. The wife always takes me to Red Lobster. Whe I was a kid, living in Florida, right after my dad got back from Nam, we would go to Disney World for my berf-day.

Re: Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

Christmas eve is spent preparing the next days meal for the most part, getting the smoking pit ready for the boar shank, making the glaze for it, chopping potatoes and grating cheese, making dough dinner rolls, etc. The boar shank goes into the pit at midnight, and smokes for roughly twelve hours, when it comes out you can cut it with a fork.

My wife's birthday is Xmas eve, all she ever wants is Pavlova. 70% sugar, 29% cream and the rest is empty calories lol

Google it, I don't have enough posts to make linkage yet, I'm a lurker lol

Re: Do You Have A Christmas Eve Tradition?

We're pretty much the '50's set (June and Ward Cleaver). Have family and friends over, fried turkey, ham, rib roast and all of the fixins'. Exchange presents with all that won't be able to make Christmas Day. Plenty of libations.

Gluttony, commercialism, drunkeness, anything to make Jesus proud of being born.
