DIY Traffic
I have a unique problem over at www.diychatroom.com
I have a bunch of willing contractors who are willing to help people with their problems. But I don't have the confused homeowners to ask the questions! LOL Don't get me wrong, I just launched the site on Friday so I'm not expecting much right now but its a problem that I think will a few months to get over. So, what do you think? What is the best way to attract DIY'ers to the site? Any ideas/feedback? Thanks

Re: DIY Traffic
One thing I've found is posting at large DIY sites. Find topics that are covered in your DIY Guides and post a link. Post to other topics with a link in your sig. But you can't post at mine.. LOL j/k

Re: DIY Traffic
When this site was first up and running, I went to the most popular DIY sites and posted a link. Some sites dont like that, but some sites dont mind.
Although I have been finding it tough, because right now it looks like nobody is around to answer links. Most of the areas have had no action in them (ahheemm ....flooring ahhheemm). I think a sticky somewhere informing people that although there are not alot of posts as af yet, there are lots of pro's checking the site often, ready to help them, and help the site get off the ground. post an obvious sticky, and let us do the rest Nathan. We will help advertise.

Re: DIY TrafficQuote:
What I don't want to do is break another forums rules by posting a link to my site.

Re: DIY Traffic
Most of them are pretty good about it. And some of the bigger ones don't have time to be that strict - or they are so big they aren't threatened by them.

Re: DIY Traffic
Nathan, look at the other DYI sites and looks for posts without answers. Send the original poster and e-mail saying "Maybe someone at DYIchatroom.com can help you out."

Re: DIY Traffic
excellent idea Grump, In fact I never go to the roofing sections, but if I see an unanswered roof question, I can say "check out Grumpy over at DIYchatroom and see if he can help"
hows that sound?

Re: DIY Traffic
Sure. Then I call tell them "Nope I can't help."
Hehe J/K. I help alot of those people. I really really want to say the whole time "Your in way over your head. hire a roofer." But I don't I give friendly advice... except when people want to install a skylight from the inside of the house. How cheap can you get?! |
