Divining Rods: Fact Or Fiction?

Many people swear by this old school technology but I just don't understand how it could work. Please explain

Re: Divining Rods: Fact Or Fiction?

Witching water wells around here is a time honored tradition...but it beats me how it works. I am well educated and know better, but I have seen it done, and believed what I saw. I had a well drilled by a major water well company, and they hit nothing in 2 tries. A local guy with a rig came out and held the "bent coat hangers"? in his hands and walked around, the rods crossed, and X marked the spot. Great well.

Suposed to have something to do with magnetism, but I really don't know.

I know my stepfather swore that witching worked, but they used a branch I believe. Another guy at work had a well drilled and didn't hit anything and a local guy came out and witched the property and they drilled there and it hit water. Might be fake as heck but it does make a person wonder.

No witching isn't fake. We did it to find a water main. With two rods they pointed down the water line. Some guys don't have the touch others do. It's all magnatism

Re: Divining Rods: Fact Or Fiction?

It's fake. It's got to be. I don't understand it so it must be fake. It has to be. There is no logical way it can work.

My town sewer guy does it almost every day. He came and located my sewer main with it. I don't know how it worked. (must have been fake). Then he gave me his little extendo/antenna thingy to try it.

It worked.

I don't know how.

Its just not right.

It swung out all by itself. Right when I walked over the pipe. I don't know how.

It's probably fake.

Re: Divining Rods: Fact Or Fiction?

I have seen it done many times. It seems to have originally started in New England? I even tried it a couple times and couldn't make it work. Maybe you need the "Magic Touch"?

Re: Divining Rods: Fact Or Fiction?

I have seen this done twice in NC and they hit water both times. For all that I know, there could have been water wherever you punched a hole.

Re: Divining Rods: Fact Or Fiction?

Use to live in a part of central Texas where the ground water was real spotty. Some city folks bought a piece of property to build on, and had a local water witch spot the well location. Trouble was, That location was not convient to the house, so they had a driller put down the hole where they wanted it. Then they had him put down another, and another. All dry. Finally had him drill where the witch said they'ed find water, and that's where they found it. Would have saved themselves a lot of money had they believed the "superstition" in the first place.
No, I don't have a clue as to how it works, and it doesn't work for me. But if I ever need to drill a water well, I'll have the property witched before digging.

Re: Divining Rods: Fact Or Fiction?

I grew up in a little town in VT, only claim to fame was the home of the American Dowsing asc. They used all sorts of things to find water, a common branch will work, you need a "v", hold the two legs and the base of the v will point down when it finds water. Go out to your street where you know where the sewer or water mains run and it will point down.....you can even have someone blind fold you and you will feel the legs twisting in your hand----make sure your grip is not to firm. Any branch will work---hard to believe unil you try it.
