Dougchips:

Doug was my grandmothers first name and

Chips is our family's last name, my great grandfather made the name shorter, it use to be chippicker= cow dung (chips) collecter. The dung was collected and used to start seeds. When watered, it keeps water very well and the seeds sprout rather quickly.

It's just my first two initials and my last name. Marc D Shunk. Does look like skunk, though. I got that a lot in grammar school. Never as an adult, unless someone just goofed up the pronounciation accidentally. It was shortened from the German form of my name when the ancestors crossed over, from Schounk. The pronounciation is still basically the same either way. It helps that a local TV weather guy (in Gettysburg) has my same last name, so many people around me know it already.

Re: CT Nickname?

Mike Finley - first names Harold, last names Rasputin so it seemed like a no-brainer.

Actually, spent some time on another well known construction site and most members just used their names. Don't get mad, but I don't really get the whole made up user name thing, I mean if you met people in person would you tell them hi, I'm deck-banger119? Why hide?

Doug is a very unusual name for a lady. How did she get that name chosen for her?

Re: CT Nickname?

When I went to college, I had a vacant commercial property, and to pay the bills, and go to school in the day time, I opened a bar...the "oasis club", before Garth Brooks wrote the song, "Friends in low places".......after I sold the business, I was teaching Aviation Tech, and a student knew about the club, and nicknamed my classroom, the "oasis", and before long, all the students at the school called my end of the building "club powerplant, and my classes "Jay's oasis"......about that time, I changed my school e-mail account to joasis...it was funny then, funny now, and now you guys know where it came from. I use that nickname for all my activities, including Ebay.

I though maybe you thought you were a pretty-boy, you know MDS - Hunk . But then I saw some of the pictures you use to represent yourself as an avatar, man, your no pretty-boy .

Mines nothing special, just first name last initial - how boring am I?

Recreation now. Used to play in a little jam band where we would host open mic nights around town for free beer for the hell of it.

I mostly play 60's and 70's rock and acoustic. Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, The Who, Beatles, Rolling Stones... you know, all the good stuff.

Re: CT Nickname?

I think staying somewhat anonymous on public forums for some people is the right thing. I know I've said a few things where I was happy there was an edit button. There are a few other scenarios I can think of where anonymity would be an advantage. Of course for people activly in business there is no anonymity.

I've been an amateur radio operator since i was a kid and when my Dad passed I was able to take over his call sign, K2eoj.

Re: CT Nickname?

When I had my own company many years ago it was called Thornson Home Works. The Works meaning I did everything from pouring grade beams to roofing (and everything in between). Today working for a commercial GC I do everything from estimating, project managing, scheduling, and a lot of the labour (from flooring, framing, finishing, millwork, right up to installing suspended ceilings) so again "TheWorx" seemed a good name...
