Here's what I would do if it were me:

I would go on contractortalk and start multiple threads. Ed the Roofer would get annoyed and move them.

Would you root for him if you were the homeowner? Screw that ingrate, I hope he gets nothing and has to pay her attorney's fees. Finders keepers my a$$. If he'd struck oil on her property would he collect?
