I agree with you but the flip side is - if the big corporations, business, etc... stop buying jets & other items, that impacts other parts of the economy. What really gets me is that they went to a foreign company instead of looking closer to home. Last time I checked we still had a few good places here that produce some top quality products & would probably have been cheaper than they were.

They look to the US Taxpayer to bail their sorry ass out, yet they support a foreign company by spending our tax dollars with them, that is part of the problem with this country, people buying foreign goods.

What I think is funny is when I see a Harley guy driving a Toyota or a Honda and they put the Harley stickers on it.

Yes it does, but what us citizens think doesn't matter.

I saw the dismissed CEO of Merrill on TV last night. Some MSM reporter type was grilling him about the 7 figures he spent on his office remodel before he got axed.

His lame reasoning only served to prove that he has a sense of entitlement and could not care less if the company went in the bucket, as long as he had his $1500 wastebasket. Actually did have a wastebasket by his desk that cost $1500 plus.

1.2 million to remodel his office, everyone around him should also be fired and have to pay back 2x what they spent and it goes to us not the company.

Re: CitiCorps Buys New Luxury Jet

Every year, Uncle Sam collects 1 to 2 trillions dollars ($1,000,000,000,000) in tax money (income, business, etc.)... they spend spend spend all$$... & pay back all US debt interests (billions per year to banks, foreigns & US bond holders)... but still not enough, still borrow more like there's no tomorrow. So now, Obama's stimulus money = new future loan/debts too!??

Note: 1 billion = 1,000 millions, 1 trillion = 1,000 billions (12 zeros!, lots of #)

This whole situation is disgusting. The Problem is that no one is has been prosecuted for violating the constitution in decades so they have no fear of how they use our money. The ceo's understand that the government is illegally giving them money so what do they care if they are using it irresponsibly.

Re: CitiCorps Buys New Luxury Jet

The bailouts have been the biggest scam ever put on the American tax payer. I think what we are seeing is massive redistribution of wealth.Buy gold. The more money they print the less your money is worth. Watch gold rise and rise. The Euro is headed for a nose dive, the UK Pound has dropped significantly. The worlds money is losing it's so called "Value". Watch the wars start kicking with the collapse of some countries economies. Iceland is bankrupt, and Ireland and Greece could follow. This will drop the value of the Euro as they print more of it. Keep an eye on the Gaza conflict. Israel will bomb Iran and the US will go rushing in. Hope I'm wrong but I think it's all starting. Just re-read my reply and come off as one of those conspiracy nuts! I think the worlds banking system could be completley changed. If the price of gold is used to value your dollar it is currently worth just over a penny.

Re: CitiCorps Buys New Luxury Jet

You just have to justify the cost of operating and owning a corporate plane against the time saved, number of people hauled and the alternate costs.

We had a local company that had a virtual airline fleet with a small terminal. Reservations had to be made in advance with approval by the supervisor that was responsible for the department profit. Usually, flights were short (100 to 800 miles) that started very early in the morning and returned that night. It eliminated the car rental (not always) and hotels and extra meals in addition to the extra day for return flights. They started early in the morning because the planes made several stops to accomodate the individual locations. Thaveling commercial was always an option.

I also worked for company that had a Lear Jet (sold because of available airports and fuel at a profit) that was replaced by a Queen Air. When the plane was not required is was chartered out or used to get customers to scattered locations for demonstartions in smaller towns. The criteria for employee use was the number of employees and hourly rate for the plane and pilots set by accountants against the time and car/hotel/extra meal costs envolved by employees (often and extra day) - The company President did count as 2 people because he got paid more. We usually had to have at least 4 or 5 people in the 6 passenger plane.

Not all corporate planes are the same and some make money.

Re: CitiCorps Buys New Luxury Jet

Thanks Dick,
Great insight into the corporate world. If you think the corporate jet is a big deal, wait til uncle sam comes into your business and says you don't need that fancy pickup to frame houses, or those air nailers are causing unemployment so no air compressors on a job site.

The Gov't doesn't belong in private industry any more than I belong in the white house. It is so frustrating to watch the avg person knee jerk react to some normal business practice.

For a simple example, just hand a potential customer, (who you know has no idea what the job should cost) your estimate for adding a garage and new entry way. After you pick them off the floor you will have seen the same reaction as we are seeing to this so called "corporate greed"

I could care less how they run their business, just don't take my tax dollars to do it and if they are wasteful, they will go the way of all wasteful exercises.

Boy is my dander up about this, sorry about the rant.

I believe it was said that the money to pay for it was from selling 6 other jets.

Not that I agree with the purchase or anything.....

Obama said.. "Income tax will be lowered this year temporarily (to celebrate my Inauguration God's promises) but... will double, if not tripple at all, to negate any faked bailout-compensations for real Americans in next several years". .. J/K

That's absurd. But, I guess if your sh!t doesn't stink, it needs to go into a fancy toilet.
How the HELL could you even FIND a $35,000 sh!tter???
What, gold plated?

That's more than my friggin' truck cost brand new.

I agree.
If I run my business into the ground, I'm deader than Kelsey's nuts and nobody, certainly not the U.S. Government, is going to bail me out.
Let these companies do as they see fit, buy all the jets and $35,000 crappers they want. When the bill comes and they can't pay, they get the bum's rush like everybody else. Let it shake out how it will.
We'll weather the storm and maybe in the long run, recover and be better off without these deadbeat nabobs.

I understand that if the big three go tits up, and the banks do the same, and the Wall Street firms and so on, that's devasting to the overall economy.
But where does it end? AIG threw a $500,000 party the SAME WEEK they got an $85 Billion government bailout.
Merrill Lynch paid out over a billion dollars in employee bonuses right before they tanked, and B of A swallowed them up.
Then B of A took a huge amount of government bailout money.
We are getting screwed.

Anybody on here getting any bailout offers? My business is drying up, but my expenses aren't. How many of your tax dollars would you like to commit to my company?
